Social climbing in the DC area: who are the “right people” to get in with?

It's vitally important that all your furniture have plastic covers, so it doesn't get ruined for company. Then you need one of those venus lamps with the oil water droplets? If you can afford one of these collectors items, you are moving up already. Finally, vintage leisure suits for the whole family.

As mentioned before, you have to be nominated to get in the Green Book (and it is Green, not blue)

Pfffffft, those aren’t “yachts”. Those are strivers.

Real yachts are still in Lauderdale right now. And they don’t come to DC.

Ever.

Actually real yachts are circling the Virgin Islands or Monaco

Kind of, but it's where you go to see how much your car is worth. With that information, you're better equipped to judge someone worthy of social climbing or not.

You really gonna tell Michael Saylor that his 87 foot Moksha that is constantly parked at the Georgetown waterfront isn’t a “real yacht”?

You must be joking!

The helicopter alone on a actual yacht costs 2x more than his overgrown speedboat.

Doesn't he rent it out by the hour? Then I would call it a yacht b/c the correct term for non-strivers is "boat".
