Malikai is his full name.

Is that a twist on Malachi?

Ha, I tried to googlethe name Malakai cause I think it meant the messenger of God, but I misspelled it to Malaka and that means wanker in Greek!

I have an 18 year old Kai and love his name. We have Scandinavian heritage, but I also like that it is Hawaiian.

Get out more. It was (is) a very common first name in Germany, mostly for men born in the 60s and 70s. It means warrior or fighter and is derived from Old Low German.

Ha! My German college boyfriend was named Kai, born 1973.

This cracks me up. I’m the PP you quoted. I was born in Hawaii, graduated from
Harvard, and used to live in Germany. Never met anyone in Germany with that name.

main characters are a boy called Kai and a girl called Gerda. He was swapped by the Snow Queen into her beautiful sled and
his heart was changed by the bit of an ice that got into it. Took Gerda a lot effort to get to find him in the Ice castle and her kiss
melted his heart finally. Original story is so different from Frozen.

Still, the name Kai rocks.

Yep, that is the first thing I thought of when I saw the name.

Florida? Go figure, it is more of a cold climate name to me

I would imagine that every other boy in Florida would be called either Ernest or Hemingway.

My son is a friend of Kai here in AZ. His dad is Hawaiian, so I just assumed that's where the name came from. Wherever it's from, I love that name!

Same. I have a friend who is Hawaiian. His name is Kai. Also knew a Kailani. I know Kai is a popular Hawaiian name but never heard it from anywhere else.

Kai seems to be very popular with the upper middle class, liberal, outdoorsy set.

Ok, so I just checked and there's NO WAY to contribute the popularity of the name Kai with a non named character in Frozen.

The movie never mentions his name -- not even once, I checked... and unless expectant parents are researching baby names of unnamed fictional characters on IMDB, I highly doubt there's any correlation between Kai's popularity and Frozen.

Btw OP, I love, love, love Kai (I grew up in Hawaii and it's very common and popular there).

All of the hottest guys were named Kai. 😁

There are two Kais in my son's 4th grade. One is American/Japanese, the other one is Indian.

For this Russian mom, Kai is forever linked to Snow Queen's Kai and Gerda. So much that every time I see a Kai, I think - hey where is your Gerda?
