How is there not a thread about that lunatic dad who screamed at the Loudon school board?

Well most families in NOVA are choosing to remain virtual, so this is probably true.

Actually not true. Perhaps for Loudoun - but the pendulum is swinging the other way and at least in Alexandria, Fairfax and Arlington the majority of parents are pushing for in person.

Uhhhh at the FCPS school I work at, over 100 parents have switched their kid to virtual when given the opportunity last month.

Good, so it’ll be even easier to get RTS off the ground and help set protocols.

I mean, sure? But it is not the "majority of parents." It is a minority of parents. A minority of majority affluent parents. All the people screaming about "oh what about the most vulnerable." The most vulnerable and at risk students that are not logging on to do anything are remaining virtual.

You people are insane. They are choosing to remain virtual because they (for their own reason) don't think its safe enough yet, based on the almost nonexistent plans and info they have been given. They WANT to go back, they just don't want to go back at all costs.

When the CDC says schools can go back and you deny that, the only person who sounds insane is you.

This. So much for “listening to the science.” Apparently, only when it’s convenient.

Somebody has to get the ball rolling. Everybody that comes after will benefit. DL already had its day and massively underperformed.

Kids are struggling, parents are losing jobs, kids are not learning, there are a lot of unsafe situations. Other school districts have figured it out, private schools figured it out, daycares figured it out- this is a tragedy!

I am so upset that teachers who won't be returning to classrooms are getting the vaccine before daycare workers WHO ARE ALREADY WORKING IN PERSON. That is just scummy.

That is truly disgusting.

Yep. Our small little church preschool, that already announced they won't open this year at all, just got all of their (basically unemployed) teachers vaccinated. And were bragging about it on FB.

It's a shame there are so many people who don't understand how viral spread works, but just because they're vocal, it doesn't mean we should listen to them. Their lives should be saved despite themselves.

Have you missed EVERY SINGLE epidemiologic study showing minimal spread in schools when masks and distancing are implemented?
Masks, distancing, and COHORTING. And likely less community spread than we are experiencing. And probably before indoor sports were in the mix. And in buildings that overall have fewer students than we do in this area. But sure, if you want to trust data from a rural school district in the midwest, you do you.

On the news, they said that the most recent study included a mix of districts, one was large urban and the other was smaller rural. Be careful you don't cherry pick data to support your views.

Many/most teachers want to get vaccinated and return. Now if a teacher, or a crazy librarian, gets vaccinated without that intention...yes, you're right.

Part of the issue is the parents.

There are many very angry parents, in both LCPS and FCPS.

The dad looks like a world class a$$hole. He is not helping his cause at all.

Looks like is a good phrase. Honestly, with schools closed for so long and DL being the major CF it is with no end in sight, parents are frustrated and angry. This is our kids the SB is messing with. All we want is what's best for them and the system is failing. His outburst is understandable given the situation.

You want what's best for your kid at the expense of public health rates in the community. Sorry - no intelligent government is going for that. Move to Florida or Texas.

So uninformed you are. NJ is open. so is NY state (and city). Can you move?

NJ is asynchronous as is NY. If you had that you'd be complaining about your kids being home 3 days a week anyway.

The majority of schools are doing some form of virtual learning, with just 86 schools opting for full-time in-person learning. The majority of districts — 446 — have opted for a hybrid approach.

Which part of my answer indicates that opening schools meant getting rid of hybrid. Smh.

Meanwhile a staff member at our small church preschool that has worked harder than ever just got COVID (from the community, but she could have already been protected!).

No they haven’t. People are getting sick. Classes are having to constantly quarantine. In my district school sports have restarted, and several school teams have had to quarantine.
This is not making it work.

DP. Sports should never have started, especially indoor winter sports. That was just plain stupidity.
