How is there not a thread about that lunatic dad who screamed at the Loudon school board?

tantruming male-Karen he is

I like to think it applies to both. You know the FCPS SB has seen this. It’s just sheer luck they haven’t had an angry parent yell at them. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that happen.

Well most families in NOVA are choosing to remain virtual, so this is probably true.

Actually not true. Perhaps for Loudoun - but the pendulum is swinging the other way and at least in Alexandria, Fairfax and Arlington the majority of parents are pushing for in person.

Uhhhh at the FCPS school I work at, over 100 parents have switched their kid to virtual when given the opportunity last month.

I would take that change with a grain of salt. They hybrid/concurrent options and possibly having to switch teachers/schedules is driving a lot of the decision-making. It is not necessarily a safety decision or an indication that people don't want a concrete plan for kids back in school 5 days per week at the start of next school year. We selected DL over the summer because hybrid meant my 7th grader would have his classes 1 per week and that would be it. That wasn't going to work for us. And our school was able to group kids based on DL v. Hybrid, so changing to Hybrid now would mean changing all his teachers/classes and he'd still only be in person 1 time per week for each of his classes, so not worth it to us.

DP. Our daughter decided to switch to virtual the other end of the year because hybrid sounds ridiculous. Not because she doesn’t want to be back in school full-time.

*through the end of the year

He must really not like his kids.

Good, so it’ll be even easier to get RTS off the ground and help set protocols.

I mean, sure? But it is not the "majority of parents." It is a minority of parents. A minority of majority affluent parents. All the people screaming about "oh what about the most vulnerable." The most vulnerable and at risk students that are not logging on to do anything are remaining virtual.

DP. Do you really think the parents of the most-vulnerable students have the time to lobby against DL? Do you really think it’s easy for parents who *have* to leave the house for work to help their kids with DL? Thank god for the affluent parents who are doing the lobbying and speaking for the most vulnerable populations.

Exactly. The logistics are way too convoluted and actually result in *less* instructional time.

Get child care. The volume table don’t want to go back. It’s the affluent who can afford but refuse to pay for care having the fits.

I am going to be honest. Hats off to him and he is correct. There are kids that are really struggling right now because they cannot learn in the environment that is being presented. The Board is not doing their job. I have friends that have had to find private schools 30 minutes from their homes because virtual learning has their children calling themselves stupid. They are frustrated. Crying. Struggling.

Too many say it is parents wanting to not deal with their kids or they have to work. But it is overlooking that as a parent to hear your kid struggle every single day because they are withering away. I would be up there screaming too.

Grocery workers are working, retail is working, etc. But teachers cannot? The science supports it.

The environment is not the same AT ALL, which has been explained a thousand times.

Studies show returning to the classroom with precautions IS SAFE and the Virginia Dashboard shows the same. There have been private schools in Virginia open since September and no outbreaks. So PLEASE tell me how it is different?

Neither of the previous occupations are locked in an enclosed 200-sqft room with 15-30 potential asymptomatic carriers in a building with 500-1,000 similar individuals mingling in the hallways. We've gone over this time and again.

Also Virginia has the highest rising Covid rates in the country right now. Plus poor vaccination.

Well we just found the new South African variant in SC, so that’s fun. Schools here are in person. So I guess that makes our kids and teachers the guinea pigs. There have already been teacher deaths- it is horrible.

He's crazy and dangerous and I completely disapprove of him.

It's a shame there are so many people who don't understand how viral spread works, but just because they're vocal, it doesn't mean we should listen to them. Their lives should be saved despite themselves.

Have you missed EVERY SINGLE epidemiologic study showing minimal spread in schools when masks and distancing are implemented?

And have you missed how often the schools that are only open two days a week have had to close?

My DC's private is hybrid and not closed once.

His kids need to be in school. Can you imagine if he screams in public, what he does in private?

There are definitely times when raising your voice and showing anger during a public speech are effective. This was not one of those times IMO. The screaming was over the top and made him sound like a child having a tantrum.

But I still think schools should open.
