How is there not a thread about that lunatic dad who screamed at the Loudon school board?

I am going to be honest. Hats off to him and he is correct. There are kids that are really struggling right now because they cannot learn in the environment that is being presented. The Board is not doing their job. I have friends that have had to find private schools 30 minutes from their homes because virtual learning has their children calling themselves stupid. They are frustrated. Crying. Struggling.

Too many say it is parents wanting to not deal with their kids or they have to work. But it is overlooking that as a parent to hear your kid struggle every single day because they are withering away. I would be up there screaming too.

Grocery workers are working, retail is working, etc. But teachers cannot? The science supports it.

The environment is not the same AT ALL, which has been explained a thousand times.

Studies show returning to the classroom with precautions IS SAFE and the Virginia Dashboard shows the same. There have been private schools in Virginia open since September and no outbreaks. So PLEASE tell me how it is different?

Schools that are reopening (two days a week mind you) are having to constantly close and reopen.
What’s the point of disrupting everything to reopen schools for two days a week, when their are serious sub shortages, and schools/classrooms will have to constantly keep going back to virtual.
All this for a minority of parents who are demanding hybrid.

Kids are struggling, parents are losing jobs, kids are not learning, there are a lot of unsafe situations. Other school districts have figured it out, private schools figured it out, daycares figured it out- this is a tragedy!

I am so upset that teachers who won't be returning to classrooms are getting the vaccine before daycare workers WHO ARE ALREADY WORKING IN PERSON. That is just scummy.

No they haven’t. People are getting sick. Classes are having to constantly quarantine. In my district school sports have restarted, and several school teams have had to quarantine.
This is not making it work.

Not sure how anyone could argue with him, but of course, the loons will.

Well he compared teachers inside a classroom with many kids to trash collectors... so he sounds like a loon.

Teacher here. I am fine with being on par with a trash collector. That’s honorable work too and it would be classist of me to say I’m better than them. But they do ride on open air trucks and work outside mostly. So it’s a weird comparison and it shows that he views them as less than. Like “even the dudes who have to pick up trash work.” Hes putting them down without even realizing it, it’s pure condescension.

So glad someone is pushing back against this moronic throwing a generation under the bus!!

That certainly was not his strongest point.

He's crazy and dangerous and I completely disapprove of him.

It's a shame there are so many people who don't understand how viral spread works, but just because they're vocal, it doesn't mean we should listen to them. Their lives should be saved despite themselves.

The dad looks like a world class a$$hole. He is not helping his cause at all.

Looks like is a good phrase. Honestly, with schools closed for so long and DL being the major CF it is with no end in sight, parents are frustrated and angry. This is our kids the SB is messing with. All we want is what's best for them and the system is failing. His outburst is understandable given the situation.

You want what's best for your kid at the expense of public health rates in the community. Sorry - no intelligent government is going for that. Move to Florida or Texas.

So uninformed you are. NJ is open. so is NY state (and city). Can you move?

Not all districts. And you are conveniently leaving out the constant stream of classes that have to quarantine because of positive cases.
In my school, esol and sped has been back since fall, and the school has shut down three separate times for 10 days a pop.

It would be better if he was yelling at the FCPS SB.

I agree with you! That parent and pps in this thread casually demeaned trash collectors and that’s really uncalled for.

People are frustrated and upset. Parent shaming doesn't help.

Please learn to spell the counties that border your county, or God forbid the county you live in.

Have you missed EVERY SINGLE epidemiologic study showing minimal spread in schools when masks and distancing are implemented?

Well most families in NOVA are choosing to remain virtual, so this is probably true.

Actually not true. Perhaps for Loudoun - but the pendulum is swinging the other way and at least in Alexandria, Fairfax and Arlington the majority of parents are pushing for in person.

Uhhhh at the FCPS school I work at, over 100 parents have switched their kid to virtual when given the opportunity last month.

Hopefully somebody is inspired. However, our corrupt SB will probably further rig the speaker lineup now. Need to give plenty of airtime to the FEA shrieking and lying.

Masks, distancing, and COHORTING. And likely less community spread than we are experiencing. And probably before indoor sports were in the mix. And in buildings that overall have fewer students than we do in this area. But sure, if you want to trust data from a rural school district in the midwest, you do you.
