My dad is a heterosexual boomer who got throat cancer due to hpv in late 60’s about a year ago. Luckily chemo (that only recently was developed) worked but it was no picnic and he lost some taste buds. My sons are definitely getting vaccinated. |
How long between doses do you have to wait? DD is 12. At last appt her ped wanted her to get it. I declined because DD gets a reaction everytime she is vax which requires some sort of treatment or return to the doctor to "watch her." Since we're in a pandemic I rather not be at a doctor's office unless I have to. So, I'd like to wait until this pandemic is neutralized and community spread is not so high. Who knows when that will be, but my kid may be 14 by then. Could I do 14 and then 15? |
| My kids all had it. No side effects other than a sore arm and my oldest is now 28. |
|
Not giving it to my kids. I hear it gives them COVID. Or maybe it was HIV. I'm pretty sure someone said you'd end up infertile with 3 arms.
Or something like that. |
| I’m in my 30s and remember driving myself to the pediatrician when I was 18 for all 3 shots—-NBD. I’m glad I had it to help protect me from cervical cancer etc. |
I also wasn’t able to get it when it came out. I am sorry you suffered the consequences. |
I trust her doctor. We had a conversation about it. And she vaccinated her children, as well. So we did. No side effects. Any vaccine is capable of producing some side effects but the benefits here outweigh those. |
|
My son got it at 11. No side effects at all. It was an easy series.
HPV is a major driver behind the rising rates of reproductive cancers in women and is very easily spread. It is essential that all children receive this vaccine before they may be sexually active. This is a public health issue. |
| I got it at 20 years old. No side effects. DD1 got it, and DS will get it, too. |
|
Both of my kids (son and daughter) got it.
I can’t imagine skipping the opportunity to vaccinate my kids against a form of cancer. That is f’ing amazing to me. |
|
I am always very wary of vaccinations for my kids.
I waited for DS1 until older than 11 yrs old because of two reasons - 1) the vaccine was very new at that time and I wanted to know about adverse reactions to the shots etc and 2) I felt that at 15 yrs the body is stronger than at 11 yrs old. It was still within the age limit (so at 15 yrs old) and it was 3 doses within 6 months. I made sure DS1 was very healthy before the shots too. . Same for DC2. Waited and then got 3 shots at 15. My kids were not sexually active or had boyfriend/girlfriend, or casually dating or hooking up etc. It was pre-pandemic. I think I would do the same even now. If the kids are young and no one is being sexually active, I would just wait until the world is a bit more stable and secure. |
Dr said if we waited until 14 that it was best to come back within six months rather than wait a year. Could you do at 13 and then at 14? She'll likely have a well visit at 13, right? I think just ask your doctor what your options are. |
Jeeze... You're going to be one of those crazy COVID antivaxxers, aren't you?
|
Fainting is a really common side effect, and not just of this vaccine. I'd get the second shot -- now you're prepared for the side effects. |
| ^ neither of them fainted. They were fine when they left the Office. It was an hour later younger ones eyes glasses over, he couldn’t eat dinner and went to bed at 5pm. Older one got dizzy at field the following morning and completely disoriented. They received it at a well-check. It was all very bizarre- but no doubt it was directly related to the vaccine. |
