That is because it's traditionally spelled Catherine, and sometimes Katherine.

Yeah, I actually wish they'd just combine names that are pronounced the same but spelled slightly differently (maybe not if they start with a different letter). Like if you name your DD Elinor instead of Eleanor, you have not actually given her a less trendy name, you've just ensured that people will misspell her name for the rest of her life.

(And I actually prefer the Elinor spelling! But it's the same name.)

Someone used to do the combined list. Haven’t seen one in a while, though.

Like just on its own? It's a common nn for Evelyn, which is a top 10 name.

No offense to Evelyn's out there, but I prefer Evy on its own and not as a nickname for Evelyn.

I had Evie on my list for my first child It came down to that and the name we wound up using. It am glad we didn’t use it seeing/hearing it as a nickname constantly.

We were going to pronounce it eh-vee.

Then Descendants came out and they have EE-vee as a main character

I don’t understand why you would actively seek this.

Don’t most people want to give their child a popular name instead of an obscure or archaic one?

It’s not like a name is some precious commodity.

The Biblical Vashti was a queen who refused her husband's orders to appear naked in front of his party guests and so was banished from the kingdom. Esther was picked to be the next queen. It's a powerful name.

I'm the PP who listed this as a favorite, I knew Vashti was Biblical, but I didn't know the full story behind it. Knowing it, I love it even more now!

Girls who have really popular names usually dislike that (guys seem to care less).

And those who are naming little aquas should really value their individuality (I’m an Aquarius, btw).

No, not everyone wants to do what’s popular just because it’s popular. Some people actively seek popular, some people just don’t care, and some prefer unique. None are wrong, just different. And many of these names are known and familiar, just not currently on trend.
