Ok, not Winifred. What about these?

Many of the names you’re suggesting are (incidentally, I assume) characters in Georgette Heyer novels. So I’m going to just share a list of those names and a few other Regency England favorites in case there are any you overlooked:

Prudence
Hester
Cressida
Henrietta
Drusilla
Penelope
Frederica
Margaret
Barbara
Araminta
Aurelia
Matilda
Serena
Leonie
Horatia
Theodosia
Lucinda
Lucretia
Adelaide

PS If you want to keep hitting that old school English aristocracy feel, then look up an old (early 20th c) copy of Debrett’s Peerage in archive.org. They list all the many sisters and cousins of aristocrats. You’ll find a lot of multisyllabic classics.

Not OP. Oh boy, I actually like Aurelia, Lucinda and Adelaide.

OP here. Thank you for this! I’d seen most of these names before, but I didn’t realize that what we were looking for was Regency England names! That’s super helpful and gives me a way to organize our search. Amazing!

Also, as several people have noted that Harriet reminds them of Harriet Tubman, I wanted to share that her real name was Araminta Ross. We are actually considering Araminta as a middle name in part for this reason, so I love that it popped up on this list!

I've loved Adelaide since I was a child.

30+ years ago I knew sisters who were in their 70s then, and their names were Adelaide and Annabelle.

I really like Edith and Harriet.

But we do like that genre of name. I plugged it into Nameberry to see what else we might be overlooking, and these are the “similar names” that appealed to me. Thoughts, suggestions?

Edith
Harriet
Theodora
Minerva
Henrietta

Wow, you really like the old lady names. Honestly the only good one on here is Theodora. The others are just awful.

I think it’s ridiculous to name your child something they will have their entire life so you can have nickname that sounds cute when they are under 9 years old. Way too much emphasis on that. A name lasts a lifetime and changing it rather difficult. If you want to call your baby Minnie go right ahead.

I like Edith and Louisa.

Your 12 yo sounds like a jerk.

I like Henrietta best.

She's actually quite sweet and would never make fun of someone's name, but she knows how other 12 yr olds are. So, actually, she's being kind by telling OP that this is what's going to happen to their kid.

She’s wrong though. My 5 year olds class is full of old lady names, my kid included. Nursing home roster names are a dime a dozen these days.

I love Theodora & Winifred.

For some reason I also love the names:
Prudencia
Rosalind
Agnes

Sometimes I regret not naming DD Rosalind. Too late now!
