Something isn’t adding up and that’s why I’m inclined to think that something more nefarious is happening. Her case hits all the conservative talking points about race, identity, academia, etc. This case is almost custom made to dominate conservative news cycle for a month; it’s an intersection of every conservative grievance, It all seems too convenient.

She claims to be a NY’er from the hood, but she’s actually a Jewish woman from Kansas. How the f#ck is that not flagged in a background check? Her origin story would’ve been caught in a legit background check.

I really don’t see what the problem is. So she said she’s black. She pulled it off for so long she had to be convincing and at least come across as partly genuine. If we say sex/gender can be fluid, why not race? To me sexual differences are more concrete and binding than racial and she honestly believed it to be true for a long time to have pulled it off. I don’t know, but I hope people leave her alone and the mob lets this go.

The thing is, she IS the mob. Just reading some quotes from that article, shaming white people for not giving up their seats to POC who were waiting to see her at a book talk.

Also, there are like 1000 "think pieces" on the internet about how you cannot assume a racial identity for a variety of reasons. Obviously it can be argued otherwise, but be careful saying this out loud or the woke police will come at you.

No. Being raised in a culture is totally different from cosplaying as that culture during your adult life. And many black and Latino folks on Twitter are calling her out on Twitter as obviously inauthentic. But white people control the academy, and people probably gave her the benefit of the doubt.

This article is problematic in some ways, but it does make that point well about feigning a cultural identity.
