Fascinating! Thx for sharing. I wonder how they figured it out.

She sounds more like Jersey trash than any ethnicity.

Don’t be ridiculous. Vanessa Williams has stunning blue eyes with very pale skin. You can be black and “look white” as it were.

She looks nothing like Vanessa Williams or Rashida Jones.

This lady just looks white. No clue why anyone would think she’s black.

It’s not about what you look like. Does this guy look black to you?

Both his parents are mixed raced African Americans. He’s black.

Congressman from NC. Butterfield.
Who is he?

Butterfield is from the same area and is the same age as my father. He grew up in the segregated south (Wilson, NC), went to a segregated school and even NCCU (a HBCU). So while today he may present as white, he definitely grew up black in the 40s, 50s and 60s. He’s in the congressional black caucus.

He doesn’t present as white. He looks white. He’s black and so were his parents:

The point is people look the way they look.

This academic lied about who she was and people respond with she doesn’t look black. It’s not about what you look like; it’s about the lies.

NP. This is currently being discussed among my WOC colleagues in academia. Here's the story:

That accent is horrific and comes and goes. She also tries to punctuate w/a lot of profanity to try to come across as an authentic Nuyorican. I wonder how she thought she could fool anyone?

Mental illness.

Krug admits it herself:

I think she came clean for more drama and attention.

It’s like “the woman who wasn’t there” and pretending to be a 9/11 survivor.

Oh, come on. How convenient to blame mental illness. This is a disservice to those who really have mental illness, but don't contrive a whole identity in order to further their careers. It was working well for her until folks finally caught on and got ready to expose her.

Mental illness doesn’t excuse you from acting like a jackass.

It’s the only thing I can think of that would cause someone to do something like this.

Human genetics is amazing. And I'll bet he has heard all kinds of stuff people would never say if they knew.

She doesn’t sound Jersey. She sounds like somebody’s suburban mom very akwardly trying to impress her kid’s teenaged friends. I’m assuming a white person hired her for her academia jobs thinking she sounded “authentic.” And the grants she awarded must have been completely on paper.

I can’t believe it took this long to discredit her. Who was she fooling?

I can only imagine him growing up in the segregated south and people thinking the white kid was hanging out with “the help.”

Light-skinned, blue-eyed black person here. Me too! I’ve often said I’m like a fly on the wall in the presence of white people.

Something I read indicated she was about to be outed and jumped ahead of the story.

The question is how did that accent fool anyone?
