You didn't get it. You didn't get it last year, you applied again, you didn't get it this year.

That’s fine. Why not cut me loose? Why keep interviewing me over and over?

I think you should always apply, unless maybe the announcement was like the month after you interviewed and they at that point didn’t want to hire you. A year later it could be a posting for what is really a different job or has a different manager.

Curious to know just how competitive those enforcement attorney positions are. They seem to post them frequently, so they must hire a lot of people.

They likely are not amazing jobs and people take them to get in and then leave.

Months after the second round last year, they sent an email to candidates letting us know the hiring process was taking much longer than expected. I think partly because they’d just gotten a new CFPB Director after some delays. The email told us to reapply for the new posting if we wished to express our continued interest, so I did. Just not sure exactly when they are going to decide, was told sometime this summer after my second round this spring. It’s fine either way, just crazy that federal hiring drags on for so long.

Yup. It is really stressful.

Not all federal hiring is that slow. Find another agency.

Most do. I have been hired where I got an offer the day after an interview, a few weeks after an interview, and several months after an interview. It isn’t consistent over the years even at the same agency. HR changes just like all other Offices. If you want to work at CFPB, just wait and keep applying. In the meantime, apply at other agencies.

If the agency interests you, I wouldn't give up. I was involved in attorney hiring once at a financial regulatory agency and we had one applicant that we really liked but strict limits on offer numbers kept us from offering him a position. Finally, on the third or fourth posting, we were able to bring him onboard.

How did your second interview differ from your first interview? I’m interviewing in this new round of enforcement hiring.

Also, if you got and took the job, how has it been?
