Does anyone know anything about the interview process? I've already done a panel, so it's interesting I had to do a writing assessment as well. How's the agency with new leadership coming in?

Work from home for the foreseeable future and any chance for remote opportunities?

I asked about remote for a lawyer posting during the interview. Was told not at this time.

Did you have a second interview or any other assessment? Things seem to move slow with the agency.

Honestly, particularly right now, CFPB hiring is moving faster than most federal agencies. They have a ton of postings out with hundreds of applicants for many. It takes a long time to get through them all and make the best choice. Be patient.

Gotcha that makes sense. Seems like a great time to be a part of the agency. Any insight into the interview process? Thanks for all of the help!

NP - does anyone have insight into the Office of Consumer Response or Office of Consumer Education? How is the leadership in these offices? Work/life balance?

Current employee. It depends on the manager. Sometimes there is a lot of extra work. Things can change drastically as the politicos start coming in. Are you interviewing right now?

NP, also interested in the interview process for attorneys. Can anyone shed some light?

Have an answer to a question about "what diversity and inclusion means to you" and "tell us about a time when there were strong differences of opinion and you navigated to a good outcome for everybody".

Really, just typical structured interview questions.

In this environment, I would also be sure to be able to clearly and strongly articulate why the consumer protection mission is important to you.

Does it take a long time to get a tentative offer? I'm told CFPB uses another agency for HR, so it would be coming from them. Expecting an offer, but getting the actual email with it seems to be taking a very long time.

The most defining characteristic of the culture of CFPB is turbulence. It is very political, and both mission and operational policies tend to swing dramatically with new leadership. And new leadership is likely to come in over the next few months. It will be both exciting, but also stressful to work there. There are some very inexperienced senior executives throughout the agency. Subject matter expertise and commitment to mission is strong, but leadership and management skills generally are not (though there are some pockets of excellence.) The culture/vibe varies quite a bit by organizational unit, so it might help to know more specifically where you are looking.

Telework policy pre-COVID was fairly generous (I believe up to three days per week for most staff). Currently, everyone is working from home, with people only going in voluntarily. Who knows what will happen moving forward.

Anyone w/ insight about Office of Consumer Response?

FDIC matches 5% to TSP and an additional 5% to a privately run 401K.

I’m more than one year in to the application/interview process for an attorney position with Enforcement. Had two rounds of interviews last year, they reposted the position and I applied again. Had two more rounds of interviews this year (exact same ones as last year). Still haven’t heard.

My kid has always wanted to intern there because of his grandmother’s experience with CFPB (long story). I guess they’re not looking for 2023 interns yet because he’s been checking constantly.

You didn't get it. You didn't get it last year, you applied again, you didn't get it this year.

That’s fine. Why not cut me loose? Why keep interviewing me over and over?
