We have a set of 4 hooks (one per person) by the door. For now dirty masks get hung on the door knob for us to grab when we go out to do the laundry (in the garage). My DD has friends she has “bubbled” with she sees everyday. Her masks come home filthy. She has 6. My husband and I wear masks for things like grocery shopping - we work at home so don’t use ours too often. My 3 year old just got a mask that she’s willing to wear and we’ve practiced a little but she doesn’t really go anywhere. |
Wow, you send a 6 year old out to play and don't supervise. |
They said 6 masks and a 3yo... |
We only wear masks when we go out in the car, like to a store. When we get back in the car, I ask the kids to take them off and hand them to me. I throw them on the floor of my passenger seat. I have heard you should consider them "dirty" after wearing them, especially children who touch them frequently when they wear them. So they just stay there in my car and near the end of the week, I collect them in a laundry bag and wash them. If my husband goes out and uses a mask, he usually brings it in and throws it in the same laundry bag.
As an aside, if you need your kids to wear masks regularly once the school year starts, I highly recommend splurging on the Vista Prints masks. They are expensive ($13 each), but well worth it. We tried buying homemade masks from Etsy, but my kids hate most of them. Those felt like a waste of money, even though they were cheap. A lot of them don't fit well and my kids won't keep them on their face. Vista Print masks have the little metal adjuster for a snug fit around the nose, and they have comfortable, adjustable ear straps. They also have room for a filter, if you want to add one. |
I know the science behind them is that "they're worse than no mask" but my kid wears the neck gaiters so he never takes it off and can't lose it. After he lost a few I bought disposable ones but then found a few littered outside so I got the gaiters. He much prefers them since they don't go around his ears anyway. |
So, first off, why are you spending $10 per mask? You can get them much cheaper from a variety of places - Target, Old Navy, Carters, etc...
Second, make a couple lanyards, and then make sure your CHILD is responsible for his own masks. My 4 and 7 year olds have never lost their masks. We have hooks right inside the front door for backpacks, jackets, and now masks. When they are not on the hook, they are folded on the lanyard around their necks. |
That's why you fold the masks. |
Uh, how lazy are you? It literally takes 5 seconds. |
Those are the fleece ones they tested. I have ones that are like the UV protection swimwear and you can't blow out a candle through those. +1 for the neck gaiters. |
THIS. Why is this your husband and nanny's responsibility? |
Yeah, I think he needs to start keeping track of them if he’s older than a toddler. My kids haven’t lost any yet , including my 3 and 6 year old. When they’re not wearing them they usually just tuck the mask part under their chin and leave the straps around their ears. My 6 year old has been doing socially distanced gymnastics with her team and the kids are responsible for their masks the whole time and she still hasn’t lost one. |
Most people have MORE free time now than they used to, weirdo. Also, a lot of people iron their masks, especially the ones with pleats. You have issues if you find this weird. |
I’m managing by not bugging my kids about masks and just letting them live their lives. You all should try it. |
Lol. And you truly believe a filthy mask is protecting her. You people crack me up. |
