Davidson College?

Compared to what? Compared to the average American? No. Clearly left of center. Is it more rightward leaning than Amherst or Wesleyan? Yes, but then again, that’s not a high bar.

It’s clearly a left-leaning campus, but would not make the top ten list of SJW SLACs.

That said, my daughter bought a Davidson sweatshirt and everywhere she wore it, someone stopped to ask if she went there and to relay some sort of great story about the school. Mind you she has sweatshirts from UVA, UNC, Georgetown and Duke and no one has stopped her with any of those sweatshirts on. A funny/odd story I know but it tells me a lot of good about the alumni connection to Davidson.

Another fact: While not a cheap school, if your benchmark is the Northeast liberal arts schools, Davidson averages about $5,000 cheaper (room, board and tuition] than its peers north of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Not sure. Don’t think Nate Silver ran any polls on Davidson’s campus.

I have two close friends, one has a DD at Wake Forest, the other has a DD at Davidson, both are from DMV (this matters). Both are great schools and well respected. Socially, the WF girl is unhappy. WF has a solid Southern Girl vibe, somewhat chilly if your Mum and Grandmum aren’t debutante alumni. Gotta be in that “right” sorority Southern social class or whatever. Davidson girl is thriving socially. Lots of kids from all over the country.

Ridiculous. Wake Forest attracts from all over the country, including a large number of students from DMV, NY (including NJ and Conn) and Chicago. A large number of students are very wealthy but it is not a southern girl school. Not sure if Davidson is but I doubt it. Wake is more Stone Ridge uppity but not debutante. The kids tend to be attractive (ha, ha, Bachelor contestants) and that adds to competitiveness much like Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, but again different dynamics than Old South, which Wake is not.

You can see geographic diversity here. Most of the kids at Wake aren’t even from the south.

I bet that there is voting data from the precinct though (if they were in person)

The environs are upper middle class suburbs, lakefront vacation homes, and mostly registered democrats.

I never understood the appeal of Davidson and Washington & Lee. Somewhat selective but no brand recognition outside of their immediate region.

You could say the same about most of the NESCACs

NESACs have a much better national reputation. Davidson and W&L at best will give a shrug and worst be associated with some sort of Deep South racist backwater. I mean their names are not doing them any favors.

Well then you and your kid won't choose to go there. More room for others.

What’s so divisive about the name “Davidson”? Is naming a school after a Revolutionary War hero now a problem?

The rest of your observation are equally inane. I don’t think NECSACs have quite the allure you think (and I say this as someone who was admitted and almost went to Williams).

I imagine most would assume it’s another confederate general like it’s peer W&L.
