If you look at DCU academy rosters---almost all bdays in the first 1/2 of the year.

Yes, and the same is true for the national teams. In fact, they are even more first year heavy, with the bulk coming from January to April.

There's the inconvenient fact that most of the best players at elite youth academy teams are playing up a year or two - definitely true at DCU academy and now Loudoun United. That was probably true for a number of the national team players for both genders but please feel free to educate me to the contrary. Though it probably did not hurt play ups at all if they were early half birthdays for their own age.

Some did and do. Some didn't and don't. For example, an amazing player who has been on the YNT for years plays at age. Playing up is a tool that can help and also hurt development.

I agree. DCU obviously does not because they are playing up top players and turning some high-school-teenagers pro.

I’m not impressed with a January bday playing up—-yes that annoying dad I’m talking to you. Your kid is only 5 days younger than my kid in the older age group.

Now if a December kid is playing up that’s something because many kids are 2 full years older.

^ exactly early bday months (first half of year) not impressive that they play up. It’s the same thing my late bday kid has to do in his own age group. 95% of his team will be 15 by the end of March. He turned 14 2 weeks ago. Just about the same age differential.

DCU has the worst MLS academy in the DA. They are not a barometer for development.

Heard they have reached out to the ones they want to come back. For the 08’s if you are on red don’t worry about it, you are fine.

^^^Is that for all of the age groups? How about 05/06?
