Interesting, and not surprising upon reflection. If you always have someone telling you information, you never have to retain it yourself. Agree education system needs revitalization. Even something as simple as knowing how to read a map or navigate terrain and look for context clues, that should be taught. Teachers aren’t the same, either are institutions. But the military service members. They should absolutely learn a sense of direction. Coming in like this as fresh cadets yes, that is concerning. |
LOL. |
You would be surprised how anti data people are around here. |
Well, to be fair, many of them probably can't find their own state on the map, let alone Iran. |
| It was in the spring so not sure if they were frosh or not. Let's hope so. Our child's middle school in the DMV had short geography course kids could take, I've seen geography bee's lately in elementary schools, and when given an option between integrated and siloed core classes, a huge group of children decided to sign up for integrated classes, so I am hoping things are moving in a good direction. No idea if this is happening all over the US or not. From talking to various republican VA state legislators on the state education committees, I was appalled to hear that they did not even support public schools generally and preferred most kids attend private or homeschool. It's one thing to want change and options. It's another to block funding and or even to vote for regulations that might end up reducing funding and excellence in schools just because you don't support public schools and prefer private. The republicans are going to have to be more pro-public education if they want my respect on educational insights. Electing Betsy DeVos is not moving in the right direction. Until then, while I am aware that some democratic women are not that well educated (and lets not forget often poorer), nothing makes me believe that republican women are as a rule more educated. |
Not Iran Not Iraq Not Afghanistan Not Syria Not Jordan Not Lebanon Not Saudi Arabia Not Lebanon Not Qatar Not United Arab Emirates Not Palestine |
| You are missing Yemen which we seem to be attacking as well. |
Statistically, they aren't. - more college educated lean D - younger women have more education than older women, and they lean D, but other than the silent generation, older women tend to lean D too. However, I would not say that just because you have a degree, you know where Iran is. But ITA about Rs and education. I used to be a R before having kids. Now that I have kids, education and health care are high up on my list of priorities, and Rs are doing a pi$$ poor job in both areas. |
Did you miss the "as much" part. Try reading more carefully next time. The information the human brain retains adjusts with available technology. No biggie. |
Exactly my point with technology! |
| I don't see this as a big deal. What percentage of people in Iran can identify Colorado on a map of the US? |
Jus to be pedantic on a thread about geography failings. Neither Iran nor Afghanistan are in the Middle East! |
Pointless. They're Middle East for all intensive purposes. |
First of all.. CO is a state within a country; Iran is a country in the Middle East region, not a state. Secondly, have they bombed CO? Third, I don't really care, do you? |
DP.. not to be pedantic.. but it's "intents and purposes".. not "intensive purposes". |
