Said Bristol Palin, Duggars, and any other idiots that think abstinence is the way to go. No not at all, proven completely wrong......

Abstinence means not to have sex.ha ha
Done correctly you do not get pregnant, dear Mary!!

Abstinence only is a colossal failure. The failure rate for abstinence only is close to 100%. In a majority of cases, it does not delay when teenagers begin having sex or delays it by less than 6 months. When teens do initiate sex, but were intending to be abstinent, they tend not to use birth control or condoms. In states that teach abstinence only, the teen pregnancy rate is higher than the national average. In states that teach abstinence only, the STD rate is higher than the national average.

Abstinence when practised correctly works. When you do have sex, you are not practicing abstinence, you are having sex. Ok, Bristol?

Only physically, socially, emotionally and mentally secure, stable and strong kids can practise abstinence. These kids also have functional files and good role models. They have a support structure in place.

It is easier to get them BC than make them strong to have values and abstain.

Oh please. My teen boys have support, good role models, and are secure and stable.

One is sexually active (17) and in a consensual, caring relationship.

The other is seemingly years away (16) from a relationship, let alone a sexual relationship.

They were raised in the same house with the same values, and same (happily married) parents. Both have access to condoms, and have pretty open discussions with us. If I had a daughter, she would be on BC as soon as she was ready.

Abstinence is great in theory, but I’m a realist, and do not want any pregnancy scares.

I actually abstained from sex until meeting my husband in college. I did have boyfriends but was very focused on academics and interests/sports. I was attractive and got attention but did play hard to get and would dump them if they wanted sex and did not respect my wish to not engage in sex.

My daughter is like me but more intensely focused than myself. My youngest I worry about and will probably do an implant when she tells me or I find out she is wanting to engage in sex. It is natural but I do not want any pregnancies. FWIW, my city was almost completely white and most of my gf's and classmates were on bc starting in HS.

No. My niece was on depo from time she was 16, until she was married and wanted a baby at 25. She got pregnant right away. I can’t speak for 30s/40s.

15:36 here. No, I was never worried and research backs me up. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22018120

As I noted in my post, I was on BCPs for 20 years. I stopped BCP at age 36, got pregnant 2 months later and had my first kid at 37. Within a month of having unprotected sex (we were using condoms) post partum, I was pregnant again. Had a miscarriage. Within 2 months of having unprotected sex (condoms again), was pregnant again and delivered #2 at age 39. Was taking the mini-pill while BFing #2. Nine months post partum, I was still BFing but hadn't gotten a period - I was pregnant again and had to get an ultrasound to date the pregnancy. I delivered #3 at age 40 by C-section and got my tubes tied at the same time.
