| Abstinence?. Absurd. Not realistic. This mom is totally doing the right thing. |
High rate of failure when used imperfectly. |
You are on the TEENAGE forum. You need to make a u-turn and go back to Elementary Schoolers forum. |
Yep. Which means they are impulsive, have poor self control, and poor planning skills. They absolutely need to be on birth control and have access to condoms. |
Abstinence and wait till you’re 18 for a long term relationship. |
Why not the pill but the implant? They both are hormonal drugs. |
Pills have a higher failure rate. They rely on the person taking them to take them correctly. |
No helpful, but enjoy sticking your head in the ground. |
Not PP, but My daughter just turned 14, still can’t imagine having to worry about this in 2 years ... |

My 16 year old has tried the pill, shot and implant and likes the implant best. Not for BC reasons, but to regulate incredibly painful periods. Her doctor wasn't a huge fan of IUDs for teens. I can't imagine a teen wanting one. I have one and it was not exactly a pleasant experience getting it placed and I have had 3 kids. I've heard it's much more painful if you haven't had kids.
She has had some hormonal reactions with the implant including hair loss and acne when she never had any before. But those are small tradeoffs for decreased pain. |
We all know that doesn’t work

Just asked my 16 year old DD this question. She's a competitive swimmer and her cohort talks openly about BC options to manage heavy periods and cramps, which are disruptive to training and siwmming performance. One of her friends had a lot of break-through bleeding with IUD. Shot is reportedly very painful. Most prefer the BC or implant. She reports that some girls will tray an BC BC that is supposedly similar hormonal mix to the implant so they they can see how their body adjusts to that hormone mix before doing implant. My DD currently does low dose BC, which does not require a placebo induced period. I'm not sure if those with implant have periods regularly or occassionally. |
The abstinence posters are likely religious nutters. Available in all colors. |
Teens change very rapidly. Your 16 year old will be a different person than your 14 year old (with some recognizable personality traits). Bonus-- I don't miss my teens PMS. )
