"There were 75 suspected hate crimes in 2018 motivated by race or ethnicity, up from 65 in 2017, The Post found: 26 against African Americans, 24 against Hispanics, 15 against whites, six against Asians, three against people perceived to be of Arab descent and one against all nonwhites."

Btw, this is an interesting article. Seems there are lots of hate crimes against sexual minorities in DC.

On a per capita basis it would appear that hate crimes whites are disproportionally high.

Isn't DC almost 1/2 white at this point?

No - it’s just no longer more than 50% African American

US 2017 Census says the city is 45% white. So yes, it's almost 1/2 white.

The guy is clearly mentally ill. WTF is all this talk about a hate crime?
Anonymous
So the more recent guy came to the USA as a refugee and became a citizen a few years ago

if he killed a trans person would you be upset of the suggestion of a hate crime?
Anonymous
The Capitol Hill guy had a long history of mental illness.

This guy has a history that seems to suggest mental illness.

The country is totally failing people with mental illness.

That's the trend.

Why in the hell aren't misogynistic crimes prosecuted as hate crimes?

No, the parallel is: if the victim were straight and someone with an anti-gay agenda were trying to claim that there's an epidemic of gay-on-straight hate crimes. And then yes, I would be upset.

Every crime is a hate crime.

And murder is the worst hate crime possible.

He has a long history of mental illness.

And this lovely young woman was a friend and colleague of a friend. (I worked at TWC many years ago and am in touch with a woman who still works there)

What a damn tragedy

If there were any evidence whatsoever that he attacked her because she was white, the police would be on it. But it seems that all signs point to a severe mental illness that sadly took the life of a lovely person at random.

Stop with the hate crime nonsense. You’re doing a disservice to actual hate crimes

Why not let the police investigate and determine?

Feel bad for her and her family.

Nice job blaming the victim. Too bad we all can't, nor want, to live in Chevy Chase.
