Last winter they had iphone 6s for $5.00/month.

3 weeks ago, they had free iphone 6s with a plan. Those sold out in a couple of days. They were the weird colors like pink but that can be taken care of with your case.

The had free Samsung somethings last week.

I am sure it will be something else next month.

You just have to keep checking with your carrier. Something very cheap or free is always being offered.

That's a 5 year old phone. It's virtually obsolete the minute you take it out of the box, and you won't be able to run half the current apps. It's worth less than what you (didn't) spend on it.

Np: oh, please - I have an iPhone 6s and have no problem doing anything on it. I’ve had it for 2 years and no issue downloading/using/updating a myriad of apps.

Really? Because I have an old iPhone 6s that we kept when we upgraded two years ago and even with a new battery it will be down 50% in a mere 30 minute off the charger, apps constantly crash on it, it has nearly zero memory left and gets very hot as you use it. I kept it only because we have no home phone and my then 4th grader had just started staying home alone while I ran an errand and I wanted her to be able to call me or 911 in an emergency. But the phone is pretty useless unless constantly on the charger.

There is something wrong with your phone or settings.

Both my spouse and my kid have iphone 6s and neither one of them have this issue.

I bet you have a bunch of things running behind the scenes that you don't want or use.

I don't think so. DH also has an iPhone 6s and battery life has been a problem for him as well. It is a real issue.

Family issue. Check your background programs and clean up the aps you no longer use.

The second poster is not me, the person who originally said the 6s we kept is pretty useless. There is nothing running in the background and all that is on it appwise is whatever factory settings it came with and what’s app.

Right, I was just offering that it is a common problem with the 6s. DH's phone is issued by his employer and doesn't have anything much running on it as it is an employer controlled device. He has a personal phone for non-work use.

iphones are built for planned obsolescence so if your 6 is working, consider yourself lucky

DD (rising 6th grader) is inheriting my 6 in September when the new iPhones come out, and I'm getting a new one. I changed the battery of the 6 when Apple had the promotion to do it for $30 and it has made a huge difference in the way the phone works.

I do know that the next ios operating system (13) will not be supported on the 6, so the phone has reached obsolescence after 5 years. DD may get a newer model after she's shown she will take care of the 6 since I want to be able to keep it secure.

Pp: my battery lasts all day (I WAH and we don’t have a land line), doesn’t get hot, and memory is fine (32GB). To respond to another poster, I don’t have any social media accounts and don’t use those apps, but I do have work related apps and my 13yo has the same phone (purchased the same time as mine) and has no problem with his, either, and probably uses the same apps all the other “kids” use these days.

To be clear, my response was to the poster who implied a 6/6s would be, practically, non-functioning out of the box and that’s simply not true.

No.
And what kind of school are you sending your kids to?

+1 My kids have Android phones and never complained about it. Their friends seem to have a mix.

An iPhone 6 does work. My whole federal agency Office of Gen Counsel is still on an iPhone 6. It does lose juice faster than it should. But it works okay.

My DH and both of our kids have 6’s and they all work perfectly fine with no battery or other issues (DH and DD #1 did take advantage of the battery replacement promotion FWIW).

Most of the kids friends do have iPhones. But a few have Androids and nobody really comments on it.

As far as cost, we bought the phones used after doing a lot of research. We also use Tracfone for service...approximately $100/year for each phone. It’s more than enough minutes/texts/data for us because we make good use of WiFi which we can get almost everywhere.

my son had a flip phone for a year and then upgraded to my old iPhone 5, which seems fine for him at the moment. all he does is text and use the phone occasionally. and use internet to check the bus schedule.
