Really? You were turned off by a personal anecdote when a young person met a president?

I do not believe this post to be real.

It is true. I asked her what her plans were after graduation. "Heading straight to DC to work in 'government'."

Oh I believe the incident occurring is possible. That's not what I question.

I just don't believe you were actually turned off by it, or by the fact that a young person wanted to serve in government. I think you are a political troll. An obvious and unsophisticated one.

Was this at the University of Maryland? I think we were on the same tour!

I was repulsed by her silly superficiality all of a sudden. Like night and day. I was also projecting how sad I feel were my own son to waste a $325,000 education on 'government.'

See, this is proof of your trolling. You need to get better at this. You are not even successful at it here on DCUM and the bar is waaaaaaay low.

I heard this story when I was looking at colleges in the 80s. It really was shocking to parents then.

You were turned off to an excellent college because of a comment made by a tour guide and you think she was superficial? Imbecile.

Well they had a small buffet table set up and the couple and son was first in line. They took the knives and forks and the three of them ate right out of buffet like it was family style. Everyone went to other table, and they ate for a good ten minutes like it was perfectly normal.

It’s just Pitt. Not like UMASS.

To the snob who was horrified at their child winding up with a government job...do you understand that NIH, the CDC and the Supreme Court are all government institutions?

I would be prouder to have my child work for one of them, than for some hedge fund or company that exists to make rich people richer.
