As an anti-poverty advocate, I think it's a big part of the problem.

I think it's a shame Beyoncé and Jay haven't used their tremendous platform to effect social change. Think about the impact they could have if they did a PR campaign aimed at teaching black tweens and teens that it's cool to NOT have babies until you're 30 and have seen the world/lived your life/had an adventure and settled down...like they did. Better yet: tell everyone to at a minimum graduate from high school.

Sigh...everyone liking this post and this poster are so ignorant. If you actually knew anything about black artist or culture you would know there are tons of black artist who promote what you find acceptable, ie Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, Black Thought, Killer Mike, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Logic (and these are just rap artists bc I’m going to go out on a limb and say you hate rap music and think it’s all the same).

How do you know they haven’t effected social change? Bc they aren’t in front of a microphone yelling it so you can judge? They both put their money toward resources and ppl who can help make changes.

Google the following...
Jay-z and Kaleif Browder
Jay-z and Trayvon Martin
Beyoncé and Freddy Gray
Beyoncé donates to Chime for Change (which is a health education program for women)
Beyoncé has Formation Scholar Awards (gives scholarships to HBCU for arts, music and black studies)

Now please tell everyone how you have helped change the world other than shopping at Whole Foods and driving a hybrid.

But I'm talking about Beyoncé and her lyrics. And the fact is that she and her husband promote a subculture that is quite harmful. Her lyrics basically promote single motherhood. Yet she waited to get married and have kids, which is why I think she and her husband could really do some good if they championed delaying parenthood...which is a huge issue when it comes to poverty regardless of your skin color. How do I know this? Two decades of anti-poverty advocacy as my professional career (doing work domestically and abroad).

I like Alycia Keys and her true positive message for girls/women these days (she's the makeup free performer who covers her body with actual clothing...not leotards).

I don't think they are the white ladies of DCUM. I actually think this site is inflitrated by legit white supremacists (like, overt, with messages being spread on social media).

Just so I understand, are you saying that if you don't care for Beyonce, you're a white supremacist?

No. Different poster. It’s the way you are cutting her down that sounds race based. If you don’t like her then no need to post. You’re not gonna change the mind of anyone who likes her. . I’m not a fan but I respect her game and her message in Homecoming.

This thread was started by someone who doesn't like Beyonce and it's a thread about not liking her. Why would you think that people who also don't care for her wouldn't reply? You might have a point if the thread was about liking Beyonce, but it's not, so you don't.

My reasons for not liking her have nothing to do with race and I'm not a white supremacist; for you to suggest that is beyond ridiculous. I'm the PP who said she was boring and tedious, so please tell me how that's "race based."

THIS! There are too many mediocre white entertainers for me to be upset about Beyoncé’s success.

Beyoncé has been gross for awhile. Hard to ignore all the conspiracy theories surrounding her as well. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

You are out of touch w truth. Alicia has on make up when she says no make up and who cares whether someone has in make up anyway? She stole someone’s husband who she is now married to. What’s your point again?

Beyonce has been around for a long time. Remember Destiny's Child?

Her music has evolved and taken a turn that I don't care for so I just don't listen to her music anymore. She is still pretty young and I'm sure that her music will continue to evolve.

She's an artist and can sing about whatever she inspired to sing about.

Eh, I'm not the biggest Beyoncé fan ever, but I love what she did with Destiny's Child and Irreplaceable was my break-up jam when my boyfriend of 5.5 years cheated on me.

Crass lyrics have always been a thing in pop music; it's just that people's standards have changed. People used to get all up in arms over Elvis's hip thrusts. The BBC wouldn't play A Day in the Life because of the line "I'd love to turn you on."

The Who wrote an entire song about a lady's rack and how she bangs her husband so much the kids are neglected:

Mama's got a squeeze box
She wears on her chest
And when daddy comes home
He never gets no rest
'Cause she's playing all night
And the music's all right
Mama's got a squeeze box
Daddy never sleeps at night

Well the kids don't eat
And the dog can't sleep
There's no escape from the music
In the whole damn street
'Cause she's playing all night
And the music's all right
Mama's got a squeeze box
Daddy never sleeps at night

She goes in and out and in
And out and in and out and in and out
She's playing all night
And the music's all right
Mama's got a squeeze box
Daddy never sleeps at night

Yes to this and she’s half a billion rich.

Much of contemporary music is either vulgar, overly emo, or just plain bad. Low quality voices are buried under a lot of electronic sauce that requires absolutely no talent to produce. This is why I mostly listen to classical. When certain pieces have stood the test of time, most expert musicians agree the harmonies and composition are incredible, and you feel it yourself as you listen to it... well, that’s REAL music.

So you consider only classical music to be REAL music?
