It has always been more acceptable to be gender nonconforming as a girl. 20 years ago, women like me were known as tomboys. I had a crew cut and wore my brother’s clothes in elementary school and continued to be more “masculine” until college. I was teased at times, but nothing like what boys suspected to be gay went through. I am also bisexual and have long been open. Yet, I had no trouble dating men and am now married with two kids in suburbia. The bisexual men I know are mostly closeted or shunned. Even I won’t date a bisexual man because of their severe self-hatred, promiscuity, and STD rates.
