Not if she's in the habit of sending cards for all occasions. It would make sense, actually. In Asia, people give New Year's cards or the little red enveloped with a crisp new bill. In Japan, there's no money, but you have the social obligation to send a card to literally all your private and professional acquaintance.

So what you do is that you open it because you "thought it was a Lunar New Year's card". And who knows, maybe there's money in it

I am the PP you responded to, and *I* am Asian (and don't send cards). This woman, not Asian, is in the habit of sending cards for all occasions, according to OP. Why wouldn't she send a Lunar New Year card too?
