And like PP said, they do rip out your lashes. When I was a performer, I knew many women who lost their eyelashes because we had to wear falsies almost every day. I still have a patch on one lid that doesn't grow in right. Ah, the price we pay for showbiz.....

The male anchors use about 75% less makeup and zero eyelashes and they seem to convey emotion just fine.

Instead of gluing your lashes on, there are many great mascaras available that have the ability to open up your eyes.

I lived in Los Angeles, so I am very familiar with the use and look of false lashes. They look wonderful for important events where you are in full makeup, have your hair done, and are wearing standout clothes. And they make you photograph and televise better. However, day-to-day they can be a little over the top and distracting, and it will harm your natural lashes somewhat if done consistently over the longterm. My advice, just as with hair, makeup, and nails, keep it natural in ordinary life, and go big for important events. Also, consider going to a makeup artist to have temporary false lashes applied the right way, when attending an important event, rather than having more permanent lash extensions done. Unless you work daily in front of a camera, there is really no reason to sport false lashes or extensions 24/7 for months on end.

And I know quite a few women in the industry who follow the above advice.

Why are noticeably cosmeticized eyelashes bad, but noticeably cosmeticized lip color isn't? Or do you object to that also?

Because the eyelashes look RIDICULOUS. So does some of the lipstick, and whatever they do to make their lips look bigger.

I don't watch sports, but I googled- if this is who you mean, they are seriously beautiful! I don't remember sports ladies looking like this (I'm not an amazing athlete but I played rugby and hockey and only 3-4 of us even wore cosmetics).
