Why do people on DCUM think Beauvoir is the only school worthy of discussion on these posts?

It can be so difficult to find an appropriate DCUM thread where one can "respond" to someone's point by patting yourself on the back for being the world best parent ... sometimes you have to go back months.

I would like to reply to this: " if one takes a bright and well behaved caucasian child without parents having distinguished careers or family wealth...that child doesn't stand a chance of getting in".This is simply untrue. I am not a legacy or a minority by race or sexual orientation. I am not a political pundit , do not work for a think tank , the World bank or the IMF. I am not wealthy, nor am I poor. I do not speak a language other than English at home. I did not send my child to a "feeder school" or to any pre- pre -pre school for that matter, LOL . I refused. I felt that the best place for my 18 mos.- 2 year old child to learn love , patience and kindness to others was at home. Perhaps you can imagine how a child who never had to fight for a toy and never in his/her life ever heard the words : stupid, shut up,fat or" I hate you" might have behaved on the "play date" portion of the application. Perhaps you can imagine how a child who learned about the world one on one from a patient college educated adult who reveled in their every discovery might do on their WIPPSI. More importantly, perhaps you might imagine: private school acceptance aside, how happy , well loved and self-confident that child would feel . As it turns out my child attends one of these three: Sidwell, Beauvoir or Maret, but that doesn't "make" his or her future.

Gag. This has to be the most self-righteous post all week, or even month.

For what its worth, Sidwell accepted 22 (PK) + 26 (K) = 48 admits into PK & K this year. 8 of those 48 are from NCRC. Not too shabby, eh? So much for it being a feeder just to Beauvoir!

And not all schools have a strong sib policy.

Please name one school that does not have a strong sib policy.

Relatively speaking, I sense that Sidwell has a far weaker sibling policy than any private school I know. They set a high bar and don't lower it for sibs and legacies

The sib policy has changed. Erbie was removed in part because he was too strict with siblings.

Then the question of why Beauvoir is the necessary evil at NCRC.

Each NCRC graduating class for all three of our children had more kids going to Sheridan, Maret and Sidwell than to Beauvoir. During our 6 years at that preschool there were many families who wanted/expected their kids to get into Beauvoir and were shocked they did not get in. It is certainly not a "necessary evil" and it is far from a guarantee that your child will get into Beauvoir from NCRC.

Beauvoir accepts what? 60 in PK and 20 in K? A total of 80?

Right, but those kids likely didn't get into any of the big 3 schools

Hey everyone, this is a really old thread. There's really no need to perpetuate it.

That wasn't my experience at NCRC. The vast majority of kids leaving went to Beauvoir. Many siblings though. But even true of the new kids. There were not many going to Sidwell, Maret, or GDS. But the entering classes of those schools are tiny in comparison to Beauvoir so not an entirely fair comparison.

I guess folks are a little low on fodder in the dog days of summer...

Well, admissions season is right around the corner, so not to worry, there will be a spate of Beauvoir threads soon enough . . .

Did you READ the post that I responded to , or any of the others ? Doesn't the level of obsession about how to "get your kid in" bother you? People asking advice on: should I hire an advisor?Should I take my child out of one pre-school and send them to a different one that is a "known feeder" "it helps to be a visible minority" ".Can a three year old be coached for the test? "Does this not offend anyone's parental instinct? Is there anyone out there....
Meanwhile, back at Private School A they are asking themselves: how can we attract a more economically diverse crowd?

Indeed we read it. It was your smug, self-congratulatory tone that turned everybody off.
