Why did they fire the DuFief principal?

You can thank the me too movement.

Unless the case involves a student. My child was forced to leave his home school to protect himself from the people who hurt him. MCPS might take rights of employees seriously but they fail to protect the rights of victims when the victim is a student.

Does this have anything to do with Dufief?

This wouldn't fly at most workplaces. It's pretty much unacceptable to have an affair with a subordinate. It's not necessarily grounds for firing but someone in the relationship should be transferred to a different dept, etc.

Sex with a subordinate is always considered sexual harassment because of the power inbalance.

But, it happens all the time.

Where ? Where does this happen all the time?

Affairs happen at all schools. Where I work, I know of several examples. And that’s just one school!

I hear he’s back as an AP?

When principals are fired, they’re returned to the last role where they were effective.

This also suggests the offense was more morally problematic or would hinder his performance at that school than something illegal. If it is an affair, I’m glad they moved and demoted the principal rather than the staff person involved. It’s about time MCPS stopped protecting its principals and started holding them responsible for those kinds of lapses — they’re the leaders, they need to be setting the example. No one should have to leave their job because someone with more power than they has behaved badly. If they want to leave on their own because it’s uncomfortable for them, then fine, but usually they’re pushed out the door, whether or not they engaged in any inappropriate behavior. I’ve seen this happen a few times, and the teachers always were the ones who got screwed.

No different school, but Webster was the Director who bears most of the responsibility.

I’m a Dufief parent. Rumor is that he had an affair with a teacher (I’ll call her A). When there was a budget cut, A encouraged the principal to let go a fellow teacher A disliked. So he did. When the budget was restored, he did not re-hire the teacher back because A still didn’t like her. A decided to spill the beans on the affair at that point.

Teacher A spilled the beans or the person who was surplussed decided to spill the beans?
Anonymous
Yes sorry. Edit. The surpluses teacher spilled the beans at that point. Sorry!

They should terminate that guy completely, not demote him to AP in another school. Not only was the affair with the subordinate inappropriate, he showed horrible judgment in terminating an employee upon the request of the affair partner.

Shouldn't A also get fired?
Why would A "out" herself ?

This isn’t even how it works when positions have to be trimmed due to budgetary issues.

Another Dufieff parent here. A teacher suddenly decided to retire in mid October. Her last day was Wednesday. I wonder if the cases are related.
