Lacrosse Culture at St Albans?

100 is very unlikely. That would be an enormous number for a school the size of St. Albans. That said, if correct, then I would expect them to make cuts. Field space, # of reps in practice, # of available coaches would all factor in. You cannot have a 50 player varsity and a 50 player JV. 30 kids on each roster would see very little, if any, playing time, and it would be nearly impossible to get meaningful reps in practice for everyone. You might be able to have a freshman team, but the school would need additional coaches, additional field space for practices, and additional field space for games. |

Great that they are making cuts. When my son played they took everyone. It was painful watching kids on the field who could not catch a ball. |

| The relative success of St Albans over the last 2 years (relative, meaning winning almost as much as losing, beating a few strong teams and losing but not getting blown out by other strong teams), the relative success in college recruiting (relative meaning 2-3 per year, anemic by IAC standards but not bad when compared to most other schools), and the great leadership and mentorship by Hyland and Heeter has brought some buzz to the program. Still I doubt there will be 100 kids trying out. That's like 1/3 of the high school. |

Second to last. EHS will be last. Neither of those two schools can compete regularly with Landon, Prep, Bullis and SSSA (although the latter is constantly at risk of dropping to the level of STA and EHS). |

“Tryouts” started at 3 pm today. Kids who made varsity, JV, and were cut posted before the boys even left the school at 6. What type of kabuki theater is this? Looks like daddy ball is alive and well at saint albans. |

Mom, Most coaches know who is going to make the team well ahead of time. Sorry your son got cut. |

| Any more color on tryouts? I have a kid who played rec for a long time and really likes lax. I assumed he would be a HS bench warmer eventually - should he start looking for another sport? Don’t they require freshmen to play something? |

| New to the varsity team, but from what I’ve gathered only about a third of the team plays club. 2-3 Madlax, 3-4 VLC, 1-2 DC Express, about 6 Next Level. I take from this that any player with some lacrosse experience has a good chance of making varsity. This is in contrast to the other teams in the IAC with the exception of EHS where the majority of the roster play club. |

38 on the team; 3 freshmen; 7 sophomores; 15 juniors; 13 seniors. Seems about right along with those club percentages. Landon will carry over 40 but only about 17 play in games.
31 on JV. Someone earlier posted they had 100 tryout. Was this accurate? |
