Kavanaugh Accuser reveals her Identity

Anonymous
Every woman over 50 (maybe over 40) knows this was standard in the early 80s and that you certainly would not tell anyone except maybe your friends. You would have been lectured for being there and having on a bathing suit. I was raped in high school at 14 and told no one. Adults I know would have concluded I should not have been in the situation. Standard for the time. Brave of her.

Gross.

Here's the thing: I bet he doesn't even remember it. Or if he does, he remembers it very differently. "It was just horseplay. We were joking around. She didn't seem upset at the time. She had been flirting with me."

You don't forget, unless you have done it so many times, it just blurs together, which is more likely given the social conditions at these schools at the time.

A confessed serial sexual predator nominated a man who is credibly accused of attempted rape to be the key vote to strip women of reproductive freedom.

As other PPs have said above, not all young girls talk. I was raped during my junior year in a scenario VERY similar to this one, blamed myself and told no one.

I would have come forward if the man who assaulted me were running for public office, and especially if he were nominated for the SCOTUS.

There are untold numbers of sexual assaults that women never reveal even to their therapists or partners. Never.

The Me Too movement has started to change this, but it will take years or decades before women feel free to tell their stories of being victimized by men.

A 52 year old man who chose to deny the event ever happened. For that lie, he should be held accountable.

I

Cradle Catholic.

Not surprising. Catholic parents from the area back then had very traditional roles. The dads were chauvinists. The moms were SAHMs who wore dresses and baked cupcakes.

Yes, attempted rape.

This sort of behavior was so commonplace that I bet he didn't think anything of it. He will say she was flirting with him and they were just horsing around. That's if he even remembers it. He and his buddy sound like heavy drinkers who might have blacked out.

If he has an ounce of honor, he will remove himself from consideration and spare his family and this woman from any further investigation.

This poor woman. Her life is about to be ruined. Her husband and children will suffer. She will be hounded by the press, receive countless threats, she will be denounced by her old classmates at Holton Arms, by conservative women, by the old Republican men who run the Senate, by Trump, by everyone who has a stake in appointing an anti-abortion swing vote to the SCOTUS.

I'm very proud of her. She's brave. Not many of us would do this, not even for truth or honor. No good deed goes unpunished.

If a Republican woman is in denial about her place in society in the minds of Republican men, now might be a good time for her to wake up. Statistically speaking, they were and are just as likely to have been sexually assaulted, although I think they seem more likely to have fully internalized the blame and to have submerged the experience.

No matter how well women behave, to GOP men, women aren’t fully human. They’re objects.

He has already denied it ever happened. If he now backtracks to say they were just horsing around, it further erodes what little credibility he has. He used his daughters as props, he has lied about many issues before the Senate.

Surely our country can do better.

There is no statute of limitations in Maryland for sexual assault. The Maryland DA should investigate this charge, now that this woman has come forward publicly. There should be a trial.
