why can't we as a country understand federal laws are being broken? Why is it not enforced? Why are some people for illegal immigration? I am completely fine with legal immigration. |
Except Americans used to do those jobs. Maybe employers need to pay what's necessary, and be willing to hire and train people to do the job. Using a group of people who are easily exploited because they're not here legally is wrong. If that's what it requires for crab, then people should stop eating crab. |
No one is for breaking the law or for illegal immigration! You really don’t have any leg to stand on about illegality with Trump in office! You cannot claim a moral high ground moron. |
+1. Not enough green cards? Then increase the number of green cards, but don't turn a blind eye to illegal immigration. Isn't the executive branch's job to enforce the laws of the country? |
What does “no matter what they pay” mean to you? |
I could write this exact sentence but replace illegal immigration and immigration with guns. I know that is kind of whataboutism but at the same time it really illustrates why there is so much doubt that you ACTUALLY care about the laws when you don't seem to care at all about other crimes. |
Trump is trying to spend billions of dollars to build a wall (a technique that has proven to be ineffective in preventing illegal migration, particularly since the biggest problem is visa overstays) while simultaneously reducing all legal immigration avenues. I can think he's a bumbling moron who is doing entirely the wrong thing IRT this issue while ALSO caring about stopping illegal immigration. But everyone wants to paint this issue as black and white and it just ISN'T. If all illegal workers disappeared off the face of the country tomorrow by a magic wand the ag economy would CRATER. There are ramifications to these kinds of things. |
Pros:
I can more easily afford fresh produce in part because of illegal immigration. I don't have to mow my own lawn, a job I despise, thanks to illegal immigration (I'm making assumptions, but...). My kids grew up with friends who weren't just UMC white kids, thanks to illegal immigration. Cons: Illegal immigration means I have to listen to unending sniveling from myopic racists. |
Serious question: who sets the number of green cards allowed each year? Is it the Congress or the Executive Branch? |
Green cards is not the thing that is limited. You are either eligible for a green card or not. The executive branch limits the amount of visas issued for all the different ways you can enter (other than tourism which isn't really limited). So executive branch limits # of refugees, # of H-1bs, # of H-2bs etc. Some statuses don't have limits, usually because they aren't used all the time like a K visa or a O visa. If you are eligible to adjust to become a legal permanent resident you can apply for a green card but there isn't a cap on green cards in a specific year like there is a cap on other types of status. |
There are also per country limits on things like employment and family sponsored visas. So like, for example you could say there is like, no more than 6% of employment visas can come from India, stuff like that. |
Your president broke laws. What should we do about that? |
Really? How about we allow guest workers again. So you don't care if these companies go out of business? Americans don't want to do it. You are very small minded. |
I don't think you're right about this. I've seen a list of the number of green cards that can be issued - by country. Not sure which agency establishes that list. |
Yes as I put in my follow up there are per country limits. But it not the same as the cap that certain statuses get. Per USCIS:
So I guess if you add up all the per country limits you have the max # of greencards but we never really get there although a specific country might max out its visas. |
