By whom? This feminist holds her accountable for her actions. If anything, I could see blame placed on mental illness. You have to be a little crazy to pull off such a scheme.

Sociopaths/psychopaths are fascinating to those of us who aren’t sociopaths/pyschopaths.

I loved this too; a really great listen. (It was ABC rather than NPR though.)

Highly recommend The Dropout to anyone interested in the story. I thought it much better than the HBO doc .

Read Bad Blood instead. Greater depth.

She should be in jail. For a long time. She isn’t just a fraud, she put people’s lives at risk.

Do both! The book is brilliant, but the podcast gives you a richer understanding of several elements of the story. Plus it features her ridiculous voice, which you need to head to get just how nutty this woman is.

Watch the HBO doc.

It’s been 2 years…. Every time I see the name ‘Theranos’ I think of Thanos from avengers.

Couldn’t she have come up with a better name?

What a dumba**

I read the book Theranos and I’m just shocked that they existed well funded for like 8 years? For 8 years they kept getting funded? Are people just dump?

I told my husband one day, who has a lot more experience with clinical research than I do - he took one look at the original New Yorker article that explained her start-up in detail, snorted his coffee out of his nose, and told me there was no way in hell it would ever work.

I got so mad. We had an argument about it.

And now look who's right. Grr. I hate it when he's right

Ask him why so many people were fooled - including the actual scientists she had working for her company. Or did they just not care?

They really badly wanted it to work so they convinced themselves it would. That’s my takeaway from the book.

The documentary about her and the company was interesting. She has the crazy eyes.

And, her middle aged female advisor in college was having none of it, but Holmes got all the old guys to back her. That was really telling.

OK, we have a defense.

"Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of blood-testing startup Theranos, plans to defend herself at her federal fraud trial by arguing that her ex-boyfriend, who was an executive at the company, emotionally and sexually abused her, according to legal filings."

OMFG. At least this makes me optimistic that she'll be convicted!

Wow, that is interesting.

Ah, the good old mental health defense. It will be interesting to see how the push toward “respecting mental health issues” is handled by the courts going forward.

^^ this is where the mental health defense stuff comes from, motion was filed under seal previously
Anonymous

She has GOT to be kidding. She was co-CEO and perfectly happy enjoying the proceeds from running a company with him for 13 years.
