MIT may have taken most of its MoCo allotment from Blair this year--6 kids from there

Also from RMIB and Poolesville.

How many MIT from RM?

Sometimes you get the vibe from places like DCUM that schools like Whitman are such pressure cookers where everyone is is going to a top college and only losers are going to schools like Georgia or Penn State or South Carolina. But as this list demonstrates, it's not everyone, or even anywhere near the majority of kids going to Ivies/equivalents (or even schools like Vanderbilt).

The truth is that it is a pressure cooker environment and those who do not excel academically are made to feel inferior.

No one is "making" anyone else feel inferior. I've had one kid there who was a high achiever and another who is a decent, but not great student. Their friends at Whitman have been all over the map. There are lots of opportunities there for kids who don't want to load up on the max number of APs and strive all the time, and a wide variety of crowds to find your place in. That's one of the benefits of its large size IMO. The pressure cooker aspect for the top kids is not a result of anything the school does, more just a matter of hard working peers and, in some cases, overly involved parents.

BCC parent here and couldn't agree more.

Bethesda Magazine posts applications and acceptances for all the Bethesda area high schools. These are last year’s numbers, but I’m sure they’ll post this year’s results soon.

Not as comprehensive, but here are some of the acceptances for Wilson in DC, for comparison. Pretty impressive:

Can't compare with that data...it is reports admissions, not enrollment.

True - but admissions tells me all of their offerings. Enrollment tells me what they could afford or colleges that offered major scholarships to lure top students.

Why so many to Georgia?

New best school in SEC. Fun town. Great Honors program.

Hahaha. I wasn't aware that Vandy had left the SEC. Nice try

Not surprising that so many are going to UMD - a smart choice for an excellent affordable education. Congrats to the class of 2018 wherever life may take you next!

+1

Even in the vaunted Whitman cluster, not every family is willing or able to pay $70K/year per kid.

No better than at any other large public school, i.e. not good.

It's good if you are in the top 10%, the rest are left to fend for themselves.

As a Gator alum even I have to tip my hat to this point. (Though, c'mon, it is easy to forget Vandy is in the SEC.)

DP. That's true, but it still is very far from an apple to apple comparison. The numbers are much higher with admissions since many kids will get into a number of top schools.

The admissions lists are basically worthless. A single motivated kid can get the entire top 20 schools added to the list. Enrollment tells me that there were at least 15-20 kids getting into vey selective schools.
The only thing worse than admission lists, are the schools that show admissions over the last 3 years.
