Why so many to Georgia? |
| Wow! This is surprising to me. I’m the parent of a 6th grader (and 3rd grader) in the Whitman pyramid. I think there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a school like UMD or going to CC or a Penn State, Georgia, etc. but many of the people I know talk it up like every other kid is going to a Yale or harvard or Stanford. |
| No one is going to MIT? |
Or Williams, Amherst, Pomona, Swarthmore? Seems like a really underwhelming year |
And you believed them? |
New best school in SEC. Fun town. Great Honors program. |
MIT may have taken most of its MoCo allotment from Blair this year--6 kids from there |
Why underwhelming? A public school sent a nontrivial number of kids to elite institutions and a substantial number to darn good ones. No ordinary public school is so special. |
Hardly underwhelming, imo!! ----Syracuse Grad |
Underwhelming since Whitman is one of the best HS in the one of the best school districts in the country. |
| How is the college counselling at Whitman? |
| My high school in Illinois did way better than this. |
| It's not underwhelming at all -- that's an massive amount of geographic diversity. Most public schools send 95% of their seniors to in-state colleges. Good to see a school with so many open-minded fearless kids. New states, long ways from home, all new friends, not knowing anyone is super intimidating to most teens. |
| Good luck to all the graduates! |
New Trier or Lake Forest? New Trier is like 2.5x as large. |
