I had a 5 till a year ago. Now I have an SE that I will keep as long as possible because of the size. They work just fine. You don't need the newest operating system. |
*shrug* I don’t restrict myself solely to things I NEED. Most people living in society don’t either. Do you? It’s OK to get things just because you want them. |
DP... sure, but the problem is that most people with this attitude end up in deep debt, and come on here saying, "I make six figures but still drowning debt". New iphones are pretty dang expensive and to buy one every year for most people is fairly extravagant. I bet you weren't buying new tvs every year. |
I also have a 5s, and it still worked fine with the original battery until earlier this year. Thinking I'll replace the battery before Christmas. DH just replaced his 4 for an X. Both of us work in IT / engineering. |
| I have a 6s plus. I will probably replace the battery soon. |
|
I have a iPhone 7 Plus for the past year because my previous iPhone 6 died after 2 yrs, not the battery.
I don’t know when I will upgrade this one. I like the 7 plus just fine. Serves all my needs. My DH and DS upgrade every yr and both have the 10x max or whatever is the latest and greatest. They traded in their iPhone X. |
| We have the payment plan so we trade ours in every year. $50/month and it’s worth it because we like having the newest features. |
This, I can buy what I want within reason but it makes no sense to get a new phone every year or two nor does it set a good example to our kids. Plus, I use my computer and iPad more than my phone. I only use my cell when I'm out. I just don't care about a phone. We could afford it, but it seems better to put that money in the college fund. |
Some of it depends on your job. My husband upgraded to a 6 because he needed it a lot more for his current job/IT. But, at his last job he could not have a phone at work so it didn't matter what he had. |
People haven't used the new devices don't know what they're missing. The new phones are veryyyyyyy snappy and even 2 yr old phones feel ancient side by side. |
| Yes, did that with iPhone 5s, just got a battery on amazon. |
This. My dh held on to his 5 as long as he could, but eventually it just couldn’t handle the os updates and various functions stopped working. Even he has an 8 now. |
Yes I dread the day my children discover they can't go to college because I bought an iPhone 8 when my iPhone 2 technically still worked even though only for 6 minutes at a time and no apps. I can hear their wails and recriminations now. I pretend it doesn't bother me but I won't sleep tonight. |
You do if you use apps that require it. Operating systems aren't like bells and whistles people are adding on. They run the friggin phone, if it updates eventually you have to get it as the old one is phased out. |
