Oh, puh-leaze....I don't give a f*** about any of these schools, but this is just another attempt to have an anti-Langley-TJ thread. (I wonder if McLean is happy to be included this time.) |
Get help, OP. You are beyond even the normal shade of green for jealousy on DCUM. |
| OP’s is what we call a strawman argument. Perfect example. Good on you OP. |
Seems more like OP is a troll who fessed up when people lost interest in her post. |
How elitist. What's wrong with a GS 11 job? It is where lots of smart post college kids start. The good ones move up quickly but no shame in starting there at all. |
So you're the parent whose kid will be living paycheck to paycheck, barely scraping by after s/he moves out following college graduation. And we're the parents whose kids will live at home for a year or so after college, save up their paychecks, and then move out. Interesting. |
+100 The usual hater is at it again. |

FWIW,
DD lived at home for a year after college--then moved in with friends. Not at all unusual. She did not have a job when she graduated--although she quickly got one and temped until she did. She saved money so that she did not have to go into debt. Nothing wrong with a kid living at home for awhile. If they are staying in the basement and sponging off the family, that is a different story. DD knew she was not going to do that here. It's only been a generation or so since it was the usual--rather than the unusual. My mom lived at home until she married. People lived at home because it was cheaper--it was economics. I have a friend (I think she is around 70) who turned her paycheck over to her mother and her mother gave her spending money. This woman was a college graduate. I don't think that was common even for her era--but it shows how things have changed. Economics. |
It is impossible to get a GS-11 job right out of undergrad anyway, so the person who wrote that originally has no idea what he/she is talking about. You either have to have a PhD or several years of experience to qualify for a GS-11 job, and a master’s degree or experience to qualify for a GS-9. Kids straight out of undergrad can get GS-7 jobs with a bachelor’s degree. |
The elitist people are these parents who inherit the house, live on a trust fund and make fun of all the schools that are not in the McLean/Langley pyramid. Then the kids just continue the cycle...living at home and enjoy the UMC welfare system. |
You are both silly and stupid. |
|
I don't see anything wrong with kids who want to come back home and live with their parents to save up some money. As a matter of fact, I would encourage it. Because we as parents are lucky enough to be able to provide for them while they do so. I didn't have such luck growing up.
We don't know what the circumstances are. People have got to stop being so judgemental! |
Live in McLean. Been here over 20 years. I don’t know anyone with those stats. I do know a few who live in inherited houses, but they all work. No one makes fun of other schools IRL. |
+1 And insecure and resentful. |
Ditto. I'd be fine with my kids living with us for a couple years after graduating to save money, as long as they are working or seriously looking for a job, and being a good roommate. I lived with my parents for 6 mos after graduating -- didn't have a job at graduation but started one a couple months after -- lived on my own for a year but then moved home for a year to save money. My siblings both did the same and we were all on our own with solid careers underway by our mid-late 20s. |
