Is there a difference between Columbia,Penn and Dartmouth,Brown,Cornell ?

How does one "acknowledge" a college? A slight nod? A knowing glance?

I have to say though that after going through the college process at our private HS, my respect for the ivies and the top schools (Duke) has dwindled. THe kids who got into these schools over the better students were the $$$$, connected, athletes and URM. And everyone pretends that there is nothing wrong. Of course you can get into Harvard even if you only graduate w a disctinction as your grandparents are worth over $1B. Of course you can get into Penn Wharton even graduating at the bottom of the class as you are an athlete.

Brown is arguably the most obscure Ivy, yet has a lower acceptance rate than Penn, Dartmouth and Cornell. Ask yourself why? Because it's the hottest college in the country.

Columbia has a slightly lower acceptance rate, but many thousands of their apps are fueled by an interest in going to college in New York, New York.

Are you the bizarre poster who obsesses over how hot Brown is? Why do you care so much? It's just so odd.

This whole thread cracks me up in a totally horrifying way. It's a bunch of people who were born on third base and think they hit a home run arguing about their different perceptions of prestige.

What on earth does "hot" mean? I suspect that you mean popular, but that would be easily quantifiable by number of applications. So, the poster tried to come up with a more nonspecific term that could not be quantified or disputed.

Sounds desperate OP. If you went to Dartmouth you should be happy you at least got into an Ivy. Its reputation has suffered a bit over the partying atmosphere, but who cares? It still beats a non-Ivy

Why? If a party-hard school that's in the middle of nowhere doesn't appeal to you, why go there just because it's an Ivy? There's a reason why Dartmouth gets so many less applications than the other Ivies.

Yeah, because dull commoners don't 'get it' and wouldn't fit in. Sorry you can't comprehend.

Because it’s the smallest Ivy, genius.

I guess Cornell is the most popular Ivy then because it receives the most applications.

Brown and Dartmouth are the favs of the boarding school money, that I know for a fact. Penn and Cornell and even HYP these days are intense and desperate.

If Brown was the hottest ivy then HYP, Columbia and Penn would have lower yields than Brown. They dont. You are either trolling or very bizarre. Brown is not one of the hotter ivies.

You mean the artsy-fartsy or bro-ey /less intense boarding school types. The top kids at boring schools do not aim for Brown or Dartmouth. No wonder Brown and Dartmouth are slipping if they are attracting these types.
