Postsecret today: "The most well-endowed men I've been with are anti-gun and don't care about cars.

I am a male. I have a wife and two kids. Four years ago (kids were 8 and 4 at the time), my house was broken into around 2:00 AM. I shot and killed the intruder. After fingerprints and identification, he was linked to the rape and murder of three different women, and the murder of 4 other individuals. He was armed when he broke into my house. So I don't regret responsibly owning a firearm. I also have a firearm license and have never committed a crime or used drugs.

Hahaha. I'm about average in endowment I guess. And I don't like Obama, Hillary, or Trump.

My DH is a die-hard Democrat and an environmental scientist. He's a feminist, believes in marriage equality, racial justice etc. He is the biggest I've been with (9 inches and girthy). And he will get roughneck real fast if he has to.

Wow...sorry to hear this happened but you are a textbook case of good guy with gun. The lady earlier in the thread would just prefer to call the "useless" cops as her hapless husband watches his wife and killed or raped.

What was the name of the person you killed and where did this occur?

I'm just not that afraid of it happening, because it's rare. Gun accidents are more common than successfully defended home invasions.
Why are you so afraid of such a rare thing, and think a more common thing won't happen to you?

Nobody said anything about fear on the pro choice (guns) side of the aisle. It is YOU that is fearful of the inability to properly protect and safely utilize a firearm for protection or recreation. You are playing the odds that something bad won't happen to you which requires a firearm and that is your choice.
It's a bad choice, especially if you are a parent, but it's your choice nonetheless.
It is instinct to protect my family and property, not fear or paranoia. Just as normal as it is for you to put your cell phone in pocket when you leave your house is as normal as it is for me to carry my concealed weapon in public (legally) or to have a biometric safe with a loaded handgun next to my bed,

Many "accidents" are suicides that were set up to look like accidents. Suicide cancels most life insurance polices.

On any given Sunday afternoon, at least half the shooters at On Target in Odenton or the Maryland Small Arms range in Upper Marlboro are black. And you should see their cars (and trucks)!

My DH can build/repair many things including cars.

He also knows that keeping an object that is 20x more likely to hurt a family member than a home invader is stupid.

Enjoy your meathead, bimbo!

Glad your lame statistic makes you feel better about not doing your #1 job a day parent (protecting you children).
Rely 100% on the government to save you, great plan.

You realize that numbers can't be 'lame' or have any other value assigned to them? They just are.

The government/police are clearly useless. I'm not relying on them, but on my pretty rudimentary risk/benefit analysis skills.

They're still a lot better than yours...

Don't call the cops then when some predator is sexually assaulting you.

I wouldn't let a democrat politician or member of the media into my home, so that's not really something I worry about.

Please provide statistics on how often this happens in someone's home at the hands of a total stranger.

What's the odds of an NRA instructor being across the street from a church during a mass shooting, hears the chaos, retrieves his firearm and shoots the perpetrator?

Well, since the only time those circumstances were present, it happened exactly as you said, I'd say the odds are just about 100%
