OK, so don't be respectful. That's your choice. Just don't then complain when adults get angry at you for your lack of respect, or non-adults looking for a way to shock the olds find this an effective way to shock the olds, or your children grow up, move out, and stay as far away from you as possible.

No joke. PP is a bitter party of one.

Hardly. Trump did win, you know.

Except there are still more of us than they are are you as the results of the popular vote and the lame crowds as his inauguration demonstrate.

Right. You keep telling yourself that.

I thought pansexual refers to being attracted to people’s personalities rather than looks. (Which could include being bi, technically).

It means being open minded to any gender presentation. Being into the person rather than limiting oneself to a category of people. It doesn’t mean that a person who is pansexual will never say no to anyone, as was stated upthread. It just means that they’re open to all gender presentations and sexual orientations. It’s basically the most open minded sexual orientation.

Yes, I'm sure an 11yo has the life experience to understand that about themselves.

So "open minded" that it makes zero sense.

Of course an 11-year-old doesn't. (Does anybody? There are plenty of stories of people who believed themselves to be [whatever] until they met a specific person.) Which is why the prudent person takes the advice of the middle-school teacher, up thread, instead of fighting with 11-year-olds about people they may or may not be attracted to now or in the future.

She likes the idea of being able to love anyone, regardless of gender, cis/trans, etc. She also probably likes being the “woke” kid in her grade when most of her peers don’t know what pansexual even means. So a little attention seeking and a lot of good intentions, most likely. It may or may not stick. She’ll be fine.

-6th grade teacher who sees one of these kids every year or so.

This advice.

The has mental problems. I'd steer my kid away from the freak.

She probably just found the term online and it may or may not actually apply to her. I'd listen to her and probably also bring up the difference between sexual and romantic orientation, as a lot of sixth graders could technically be labeled ace. She might be panromantic asexual! It could be harmful for her to label her sexuality at such a young age.

Why would an 11/12 year old announce their sexual preferences (tbh, typing that out about an 11yo makes me feel sick) to people they barely know? And yes, it is often to people they barely know.

Ok, this is the second time I've seen that term ace. What the hell is that?

oohh oohhh ooohh. I think I know this one! Can I guess? I think it sounds like a cool word for "asexual". Which is apparently another thing these days.

I certainly hope my 6th grader is asexual. Just saying.
