DARK! DARK! DARK!

The dark is like a movie, the movies like a show
The show is like a tv set and that is all I know
I know my ma, I know I know my pa,
I know I know my sister with the 40 acre bra

She dyed her hair all purple, she dyed her hair all pink
She dyed her hair all polka dot then washed it down the sink.

Miss Suzie had a baby, she named him Tiny Tim
She put him in the bath tub to see if he could swim
He drank up all the water, he ate up all the soap
He tried to eat the bathtub but it wouldn't go down his throat
Miss Suzie called the doctor, the doctor called the nurse
The nurse called the lady with the alligator purse.
Measles said the doctor, mumps said the nurse
I don't know said the lady with the alligator purse.

Southern California early/mid 90's

Boston, too!! Early '80s. Although I honestly don't remember if it was Lucy or suzie after reading all of these. But I absolutely sang along to this whole version.

For us, it was Miss Lucy, 18 hr bra, and the glass "went right up her..."

We also sang the tiny Tim bathtub/alligator purse as a clapping song

Anyone do the "crack an egg on your back, let the yoke drip down, yoke drip down..." hypnotizing game where you were supposed to open your eyes and see different colors?

no, but we did "light as a feather, stiff as a board" and Bloody Mary

Yes to all! What a flashback I'm having now lol.

We did "light as a feather, stiff as a board" and Bloody Mary at slumber parties and girl scout retreats in Missouri in the 80s (and told ghost stories, always including the China doll with the long fingernails), but I've never heard of the egg/yolk thing.

Did anyone say:

Early in the morning
Late at night
Two dead boys
Got up to fight
Back to back
They faced each other
Drew their swords
And shot each other
The dead policeman
Heard their noise
And came to kill
The two dead boys
If you don’t believe
This lie is true
Then ask the blind man
He saw it too.

Sounds so horrid and morbid now. But we just shouted it quickly and we’re pretty oblivious to how dark it was. Just felt like a taboo thrill.

We did the "milk, milk, lemonade, around the corner chocolate..."

And I admit I still giggle when I think back to it.

We did this at slumber parties but no seeing diff colors - it was just a backrub type thing. The hallucinations must've been lost in the translation!

Exactly this except Miss Lucy, not Miss Susie. Philadelphia, late 1980s. We did it as a clapping game. We also did the Tiny Tim to the same tune.

Ugh yes, the yolk. “Let the yolk drip down … let the yolk drip down …”

And we did Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack, all dressed in black, black, black …

He drank up all the water, He ate up all the soap, he tried to eat the bathtub but it wouldn't fit down his throat

Miss Lucy called the doctor, miss Lucy called the nurse, miss Lucy called the lady with the alligator purse...

+1 This is it.

You can change around the lyrics. Your kid won't know the difference.

Also, kids don't take the lyrics literally. They're just silly words set to a catchy tune while doing clapping hand motions with your best friend or on the playground.
