This is the WORST post ever!

14:32 again.

I guess it serves me right for trying to help someone who would actually name her child Dixie.

I am a Christian. conservative, non-raciest, well educated, southern woman and my husband and I are considering naming our unborn daughter Dixie. We live in Alabama (the Heart of Dixie) and are very proud of our families' rich southern heritages. We see nothing wrong with naming our daughter Dixie.

A prime example of a post that should NOT be resurrected.

OP, I went to college with a Dixie (conservative southern school). It didn't even occur to anyone to tease her about her name. For a cute blonde college girl in the south, the name was great! I say ignore everyone (or laugh at the posts) and stick with Dixie and make the middle name more conventional and conservative. I promise, as she grows up, no one will make fun of here. Especially if she's hot

That's the problem. Even in the south, even if you TRY to ignore all the negative associations with the name (which will be there), it's just not a classy given name. Snobby? Sure. Still, the name will be hard to carry. If a parent is that enchanted with the name, then use it as a nickname, as in "Darlin' Dixie!"

You're correct. Some very dear, sweet girls "of a certain generation" were given the name Daisy.

Haven't read the responses but I'm assuming many of them are hateful. Ignore those, OP. It's such a cute name! Dixie Ann?

Yes, Dixie should be getting ready for her 2nd birthday now. Agree with 7:06 that old threads should be left to die or at least be locked away.

To me this is like naming a boy Adolph. Just asking for trouble....

And did that girl stay a cute blonde college girl in the south for life?

I write this as someone whose name, while not regional, is not a serious name. It is a problem.

If you name your daughter Angel, some people will think she's a stripper.
If you name her Dixie, I'm not quite sure what people will think but few will think she's the next President.

Dixie remind me of Gypsy Rose Lee who was a stripper. So, how about Dixie Rosalee?

I know a Dixie! Honestly a lot of people do make mean comments about the name Dixie, And theres nothing wrong with nameing your child Dixie. I hate how a lot of people say its a terribal name, its trashy, etc.. but do you assume every girl named Dixie is like that?? No! My friend happens to be very nice and caring. And her name was Dixie lee. ( lee is the middle name)

"I went to law school with a woman named Bambi. She kicked ass in class and I'm sure she is now a great attorney. Maybe she was super-motivated by her name to prove everyone wrong."

My sister went to law school with a woman name Bambi Rabinowitz! She was kind of ditzy.
