Middle name suggestions for Dixie

You have got to be kidding me.... following is the origin of "Dixie" from Wiki.

--The word "'Dixie'" refers to privately issued currency from banks in Louisiana.[4] These banks issued ten-dollar notes,[5] labeled "Dix", French for "ten", on the reverse side. These notes are now highly sought-after for their numismatic value. The notes were known as "Dixies" by English-speaking southerners, and the area around New Orleans and the Cajun-speaking parts of Louisiana came to be known as "Dixieland". Eventually, usage of the term broadened to refer to most of the Southern States.
--The word preserves the name of a "Mr. Dixy", a 'kind' slave owner on Manhattan Island, where slavery was legal until 1827. His rule was so kindly that "Dixy's Land" became famed far and wide as an elysium abounding in material comforts.
--"Dixie" derives from Jeremiah Dixon of the Mason-Dixon line which defined the border between Maryland and Pennsylvania, and, for the most part, free and slave states (a small portion of Delaware, a Union border state, and slave state up to the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment, lay north of the boundary.)

The states of Dixie include West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, North & South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Kentucky.

I am pretty appalled at some of the comments here too. I think Dixie is a darling name no matter WHERE you live.

Anyway, please don't let rude comments get to you. I particularly lie PP's Marie suggestion. I also think that Anne, Grace, Jane, and Quinn work wonderfully. I'm partial to Quinn, but it's rather unusual so you may not want it.

Seriously... what the heck is wrong with all you people posting these things? I'd like to assume that they are NOT pregnant supportive mothers and instead are irritating 15 year old trolls.

Get lives.

At least she's not naming her baby Elanore or Ellen. This isn't 1950, it's 2009. Be creative, open your mind!!!

I don't think people are being cruel in their responses. It is best she find out now what connotations this name has. That way she can prepare her child for a lifetime of dealing with it.

I actually think the comments on here are pretty instructive. The child is going to have to deal with this name for her entire life and, in many opinions (incl mine) it is a troubling name. Putting the origins and affiliations with some bad times (civil war) aside, it is a name often used as a nickname or for dogs. You want to choose it, that is your right. But, I will bet that the child will spend a lot of time dealing with comments like she's heard on this board. Best to hear it now when you still have time to change the name.

And, I don't think it is "cruel" to point out the perils of certain names. This is not a good one. And, I'm not saying it to be mean. The fact that OP did not ask for opinions doesn't mean opinions shouldn't be given. (Nor has that stopped anyone before.)

Carter?

A friend swears that you can tell the next hot name by checking out current hot names for dogs (and I say that as someone who named their child a very unusual name).

Ha! I am LMAO reading these posts. People are MEAN! (But funny!)

OP, I went to college with a Dixie (conservative southern school). It didn't even occur to anyone to tease her about her name. For a cute blonde college girl in the south, the name was great! I say ignore everyone (or laugh at the posts) and stick with Dixie and make the middle name more conventional and conservative. I promise, as she grows up, no one will make fun of here. Especially if she's hot

PP: I meant "her" not "here."

I initially thought of the scene in Austin Powers, where Gwyneth Paltrow played "Dixie Normous." But I still like the name. It's different. And so what if it's southern. There's nothing wrong with southern.

I have a cousin named Trixie...I like that too.

Oh and meant to add, that out of all the suggestions, I like Dixie Marie the best.

And did that girl stay a cute blonde college girl in the south for life?

I write this as someone whose name, while not regional, is not a serious name. It is a problem.

If you name your daughter Angel, some people will think she's a stripper.
If you name her Dixie, I'm not quite sure what people will think but few will think she's the next President.

I'm sorta thinking OP is the troll here!

If you are getting offended or being sensitive by some of the comments ppl are writing - you are going to deal with this forever when your child comes running home crying bc kids are making fun of her name. I am not talking about the name Dixie in general, but ALL kids get made fun either for their name, or their looks or just because, and if you have adults commenting on it - what do you think kids are going to do. It is just a reality check. I have heard of the most normal names getting made fun of growing up. If you are the OP saying "I cant believe the comments on an anonymous board, especially one like DCUM where ppl thrive on amusement) then you have another thing coming when your kid is in grade school.
