one of your priorities as a parent is to keep your girl of the pole! with names like these, you're almost guaranteeing that you'll fail in that respect.

Nobody has a crystal ball. I knew a stripper named Theresa. I knew an artist named Lacey and a lawyer named Darcy.

I went to law school with a woman named Bambi. She kicked ass in class and I'm sure she is now a great attorney. Maybe she was super-motivated by her name to prove everyone wrong.

I know a philosophy prof. who changed her name to Bambi. And I also went to law school with a Darcy. I know several successful lawyers named Marcy.

I agree. I used to deal crack with a guy named Tennyson Biddle the third. You can never tell.

Maybe she is a great lawyer by day, but at night Bambi turns tricks outside the 7-11.

Daisy was my grandmother's name. I can't be the only one who associates this name with a dear, sweet old lady, can I?

I took that to mean that there are cute alternatives to this slavery-throwback name, not that there were any particular associations with those alternatives.

You may not know this but the term "dixie" is considered offensive by many african-americans. The song comes from a minstrel show. The name orginally came from Mr. Dixie, the name of a "kind" slave owner. I am not trying to upset anyone here- I think a lot of posts are harsh but if you didn't know this, you probably would want to.

Whoa. I am 14:32.
I wasn't smearing any of the names - I was actually trying to be helpful!

Since the OP likes Dixie so much and is getting such negative feedback, I was trying to suggest names/nicknames that are similar but might not be perceived as offensive, the way Dixie apparently is for some people.

I was thinking (I guess I should have stated it outright) that she could to with something along the lines of a traditional name like Alexandra -- use Lexi as a nickname; it has a similar sound to Dixie but not the same connotations and the kid can use the "real" name as an adult.

Raise your hand if you think Rose is a trailer trash stripper name.

Gosh, you all are SO mean sometimes.
