So are you willing to give up quality of education for diversity?

School diversity is so overrated. It's 2017, kids are exposed to diversity on social media, they don't NEED it in class. The forced diversity never works anyways, kids always just buddy up by ethnicity and SES.

This is false. Whites leave diverse schools not for educational reasons but because whites don't want to walk in the shoes of other minorities.

This is proven by what happens when asians get too high of a concentration in schools - white families leave

Seeing diversity at sports event and grocery store is not being open to diversity. Even in diverse schools some people want to live in their own bubble or silo. Proximity does not equate to exposure to diversity. Engagement and empathy is what makes diversity appreciation and understanding happen.

I would prefer diversity because if people cannot empathize with others and gain perspective and understanding for all human conditions, they will become isolated and frankly inhumane. Diversity will allow my child to become a good person, education will allow my child to get to a good career. We have a president who was able to buy the best Ivy League education but is completely lacking in understanding and common sense. He is infact inhumane and isolated.

The problem is not the kids. The problem is parents like you. How do we reach the kids if their parents are spewing negativity?

Speak for yourself and your kids. Its not "forced" diversity -- it's reality in this area. I don't know how you can honestly escape diversity around here. I guess maybe a private school?

This is a question for parents who did not grow up in awful schools. To even have the option to give up quality education for diversity means you are a misguided rich person. I went to a diverse magnet program and all of us, regardless of race, were only sent there because our parents hoped to God we would excel enough to go to college and break out of poverty.

Yes this is true. It's a liberal thing. I think you really need to have experienced a horrible school to understand that willingly sending your kids to one is just terrible if you have a choice. Don't try to change the world at the sacrifice of your children's education. It won't work and you will only hurt them.

No one is talking about horrible schools here. It's more like a 10 vs a 6.

10 vs 6, no.
10 vs 8, yes.

my brother's child goes to a school where 60% of parents work at google. yes, the school is very "high performing". is that the kind of school that you would send your kids to?

Oh give it a break. 80% of Montgomery County seniors enroll in college. I don't know Fairfax but I expect it's similar. We're not talking about schools with no advanced classes and half the student body dropping out. Yet parents clutch their pearls in horror if a school has fewer than 50% white kids. Where I live, "sacrificing for diversity" means going to Blair rather than Whitman.

Guaranteed it is incredibly ethnically diverse.

White flight happened in my children's old school because the white families feared competition from Asian students. Actually, it was a blessing because my children had the best of two worlds. A diverse school that was an academic powerhouse. I don't mind diversity at my children's current school because there are many African and Asian immigrant families who value education. We don't need white students to make our school great. The students at my children's school can run circles around white students. White Americans don't want to buck up and play ball with us because academically speaking we will demolish them in every category. White Americans have done a number on African Americans and Latinos in regards to racist educational practices. Those practices don't work on Asian and African immigrant families. They can leave our schools because we don't care. We prefer that they leave because their children are slowing our children down. Unlike African Americans and Latinos we don't give a damn rather you like us or not. Nor will we beg to have a seat at your table. Asians can and we have made our own tables by becoming the most wealthy and educated individuals in this country. White people like to be dominant. It infuriates them to know that minority children are outperforming their children. I wish their focus was more on equality, but white people's egos are too fragile and insecure. They don't want their children being educated in an environment with lions. So, the leave and go to schools where they can feel superior. It's the nature of the beast. Children who are not academic alphas will be devoured in a predominately Asian school. Academic alphas of all races don't complain they do. Betas run away when they realize they can no longer challenge the alphas.

Some minorities don't need nor do we want white people to help diversify our schools. We already got that covered. Whites don't want equality. They want domination. If they want to flee to low performing schools, then good riddance!

That may be what rich liberals in MoCo consider sacrificing for diversity. The topic of the thread is sacrificing quality education for diversity. I seriously doubt anyone cares what's the racial composition of any high performing school.

Wow! Hanging out with you is supposed to make other races more empathetic? Given that two-thirds of the Asians in the United States in 2010 were foreign-born, there must have been something here created by the so-called "betas" that was appealing, and dare I say, even superior to the countries they left behind... How about some appreciation for the willingness to welcome in new residents?
