Britneys face is really different now

Wow. You should've pointed this out in 1998! I'm not sure how we all missed it, but I'm sure if you'd faxed this info into CNN- that she has a man neck and weird nose- it would have caused everyone to wake up and see her for the weird-nosed, masculine-necked fraud she is.

Millions missed what only the PP could see. Tragic.

She was? I never got that impression.

Um she was. But not a decade. Probably 1998-2005. Then she went downhill. But 1999-2003 Britney? There was nobody bigger or hotter.

She was a popular singer, but not really "the hottest sex symbol".

Were you around in 2001? If so, and you think she wasn't, who do you feel was the biggest? Madonna? Joey Fatone?

Indeed, I was around and as an adult then, I never considered her a sex symbol. Maybe if you were still in middle school at that age - maybe? But if I think of the "sexiest" women from back then I think Jessica Alba, Beyonce, Gisele, Halle Berry, JLo, Salma Hayek, Scarlett Johansson, etc. And probably dozens more who were way “hotter” than Britney. She had a few fun songs and was a good dancer, but that's about it.

Wow, interesting. You're very rare and good at predicting stars before they get big, I guess. Scarlett Johansson, for instance, didn't get big until 2003. Before that, she was in Home Alone and a horse movie. Jessica Alba's peak fame also came a few years later, in the middle of the decade.

Britney was big in the late nineties to early 2000s. She was "it." Whether you liked her music or not, it's bizarre to claim Beyonce was a bigger sex symbol than Britney in 2000. It's just not true (and this is coming from someone who grew up with Destiny's Child much more than Britney's music).

PP said 98-05, no?

"Probably 1998-2005. Then she went downhill. But 1999-2003 Britney? There was nobody bigger or hotter."

OK - so 99-03? Replace those names with a few others. At no point during that time frame do I remember Britney being "the hottest sex symbol" - plenty of others though.

Again, how old were you in 2000? Maybe it was a middle school thing? She was not "it" for urban young adults back then.

I'm not one of the pp's but I'm a year older than Britney (and was an "urban" young adult ). I wasn't even a fan and but can admit the girl was everywhere. At the time, I'd say Britney and J-Lo were probably the 2 biggest sex symbols. Halle Berry was more known for her beauty than just being sexy. Beyoncé didn't get big until 2003/2004. Jessica Alba and Scarlett Johansson never made the pop culture/sex symbol impact that Britney had.

I agree with this post completely. Halle Berry was the beauty. Jennifer Lopez came closest to Britney's level as a sex symbol, thanks in part to "The Dress." Widespread Beyonce-mania that continues to this day didn't start until the time you said. I do remember around 04, 05, 06-ish, Jessica Alba being considered the look most guys would want in a girlfriend- as reported in media headlines, at least.

But as far as sex symbols, Britney was #1. It's strange for someone would put Scarlett Johansson on the same level as Britney. We're not talking beauty or talent level or who you prefer. We're talking about as a cultural phenomenon.

Maybe a huge pop icon? Like perhaps Lady Gaga?

Lady Gaga didn't come on scene til 2008/09 and has never been a sex symbol. She's too artsy and avant grade for that. You people are all nuts. Britney deniers, I have seen it all.

Yeah - I'm comparing Britney to Lady Gaga. I'd call both huge pop icons. Performers. Not really sex symbols.

It is pretty hilarious! I've come across people who hate Britney, people who mock her for her music or her personal life, but until this thread, never anyone who tried to deny her level of fame. It's bizarre and pretty funny!

Not denying her fame just that she was the "hottest sex symbol for a decade". No one said she wasn't famous.

Are you the same PP who mentioned Salma Hayek as being a bigger sex symbol than Spears in 99-03 time frame? If so, you have a skewed memory of that time. I, personally, think Hayek is/was sexier than Spears. I also know, objectively, that Britney Spears was a bigger sex symbol than Salma Hayek ever was.

Her sister looks more like she does than she does herself.
lol

if that makes sense

Too funny! I was going to say the exact same thing!!

Milk no she was ridiculously small peanuts

The girl pop star hierarchy was

BRITNEY

at a way distant second, Christina Aguilera. Then the minor nobodies: Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore. You only know Jessica Simpson now because of a newlyweds. She was truly a d list nobody before that and her music was never good nor was her style. Brit was everything, I'm telling you guys.

J Lo was also rising around that same time. Where would you rank her?
