| I agree, it's the teeth/mouth/joker smile. Her bottom teeth didn't show with her old smile. |
Um she was. But not a decade. Probably 1998-2005. Then she went downhill. But 1999-2003 Britney? There was nobody bigger or hotter. |
She was a popular singer, but not really "the hottest sex symbol". |
NP here, she absolutely was a huge sex symbol in that era. She had the younger guy set lusting after her and her people created that Lolita image to appeal to older men (which was pretty gross). |
|
She's a sweet, kind, resilient person with a lovely personality. That matters much more than her looks.
After all she's been through in her life- sexualized by the public and her management when she was just a teen- I'm happy she was able to come out through the storm. And for someone whose body has been dissected and scrutinized in the most public and disgusting of ways since she was barely old enough to drive- are you all really surprised she's had cosmetic augmentation? Are those of you who are dogging her for it now the same ones who questioned if her breasts were real and if she was sexually active 20 years ago? Shameful. |
Were you around in 2001? If so, and you think she wasn't, who do you feel was the biggest? Madonna? Joey Fatone? |
| She definitely had some work done, but I prefer this Britney over 2007 Britney with the shaved-head. |
| She doesn't look all that different to me. Maybe her teeth, or maybe she's just smiling differently and her face has aged a bit. |
I think she and her handlers had more to do that with that, and then the public went along with it. |

| To everyone who claims she wasn't a huge sex symbol…where did you all live from 1999 to mid 2000s?? She wasn't loved for her amazing singing voice…come on people! |
Indeed, I was around and as an adult then, I never considered her a sex symbol. Maybe if you were still in middle school at that age - maybe? But if I think of the "sexiest" women from back then I think Jessica Alba, Beyonce, Gisele, Halle Berry, JLo, Salma Hayek, Scarlett Johansson, etc. And probably dozens more who were way “hotter” than Britney. She had a few fun songs and was a good dancer, but that's about it. |
Young adult (mid-20s) living in a large US city. I don't think she was "loved" as in having tons of huge fans (at least adults). My friends and I would joke-dance around to her music sometimes when we were getting ready, but that was it. No one was trying to see her in concert or would play her music at a party. Definitely not on my "cool" playlist on my MP3 player.

pp you must have selective amnesia - you don't recall the controversy over this RS cover (she is 17 I believe)
Or this VMA performance?
There were many women I personally found more attractive (some you listed), but there is no denying how sexually Britney was portrayed and viewed by the public in her late teens/early 20s. |
So maybe the media was pushing it, but that doesn't make it true. How old were you? Maybe it was a kid thing? Like Hanson.
I'm going to quiz my DH tonight to see if she makes the list at all. |
