Very good observation, indeed.

change.org petition to keep it--

It seems very short sighted not to treat B&N essentially as a loss leader for the rest of Bethesda Row. Without it you basically have that weird stretch of Wisconsin Ave in Friendship Heights--a bunch of high end stores that people don't actually visit that much.

a Wegmans??!!!

Or maybe a Wegmans or a high-end food court like those hipster places down on H street. A yoga studio would never be able to pay the rent. Somebody on Bethesda Beat suggested putting the library there and then demolishing the old library building for green space which could link up with the nearby park. I think that would be a good idea too.

a supermarket with a yoga studio on top would make Bethesda row hipper like Cathedral Commons in NW DC.

Federal Realty will probably subdivide the space for some more large corporate concept restaurants to come in.

Is this a troll's parody?

There is a Barnes and Nobles in Rockville.

Rockville isn't really Montgomery County.

Because that's exactly what Bethesda needs - more F'ing restaurants.

I just checked a map, and Rockville is almost directly in the middle of Montgomery County

I heard that the owners of Silver are looking at the space for a new, trendy upscale eatery concept. Should enhance the lively streetscape and add buzz to Bethesda Row!

But Rockville has more in common with Germantown and Poolesville than Chevy, Chase, Bethesda and Potomac.

Yes, Cathedral Commons is so hip.

It should be an art space and farmers market.

Artists could rent little booths or whatever upstairs , and sell their wares. Maybe a bigger space for performance art, or maybe yoga.

The other parts downstairs would be a nice space for a farmers market. Or for yoga.

An animal shelter could be a good thing, too. Lots of foot traffic, lots of potential adoptees for rescue animals.

I would like this but as a whole it would never turn a profit. It would have to be heavily subsidized.

It's sad that EVERYTHING has to be about turning a profit.

That something isn't worth having around unless someone somewhere is making a buck on it.

Sick.
