Right. Because immigrants have driven wages down. Stop the flow of cheap labor and the farm wages will go up. |
What do you think will happen to food prices if farms have to pay $30/hr for labor? 99% of Americans can't weather that kind of increase in food prices. Trump and his ilk can. |
Lol. And that means nothing in our nation. Except the consolation prize. You're stuck with the electoral college Hahahhba. |
So, how much do you think farms have to pay Americans for them to want the job? |
Wow you libs really don't understand economics. When the wages go up for picking crops, those people can suddenly afford more for food. The rich make the less income now that their companies need to pay workers more while simultaneously having to spend more on goods. So the poor become better off relative to the rich. Real free market conservatives love tons of immigration because it drives down wages and drives up corporate profits. I can't believe I, a republican, am makin this argument and you are opposing it, but that's what the world has come to. It's more important to me that we save our society. |

America lost its culture in the 1500s when the Spanish first came. And again in the 1600s when the English first came. And again... and again.. and again.....
America's culture has been in flux for centuries. Just because people and culture happen to currently resemble white-bread Steve King out in the middle of bumfuck Iowa means absolutely nothing with regard to the big picture. |
I'm not a liberal. Reagan era Rs are all for lower wages and pro-business. Trump is for lower wages, too. You don't understand macroeconomics. You are thinking in a vacuum. Wages *never* keep up with the price of inflation. Wages may go up, but the prices will go up at a faster rate. What is it called when prices of things go up too high? Inflation. Is that ever a good thing for an economy? |
|
^^ That only works if people are willing to pay the higher wages and higher prices. Which often they will not be. I will buy an avocado every week if they are $1.99. I will buy one once a year if they are $7.
What is actually going to happen is we'll get more imported food, so long as the idiot in chief doesn't make that impossible. I hope you like driving the remaining American farms straight out of business. And even if farm labor wages go up - which is not likely - MY wages are not going to go up. I work in a completely unrelated field. I can't believe conservatives make the idiotic arguments you expect to hear from Stalinists. |
PP = my post was in response to the self-described conservative who somehow thought protectionism would be better for the economy than the free market. We live in craaazy times. |
YAY! Inflation! |

It's amazing how Trump was able to castigate the left as living in a bubble (ie the melting pot cities) when in reality it is these snowflakes living in the farm belt who are mostly surrounded by other white people who are the ones really in a bubble.
I get it, some people don't like change and want to go to the same high school as their grandfather and work the same fields or run the same local store or bank. But millions of others want to see more out of life and experience more and maybe have skills that are not economically rewarded in the rural areas. But that doesn't give the right for someone like King to use his position to advocate for a policy that suggests minimizing or eliminating huge percentages of people who represent the overwhelming bulk of our GDP and yes, culture. If you like taco bell or dominoes, then you are embracing foreign culture. |

What is it called when a Congressman from a state that is 94% white starts shitting his pants in a paranoid fit about potentially losing his civilization?
Xenophobia Inflation |
I bet you lots of people from King's district actually think tacos are American food. Ever heard this story: a white American couple were in Germany. Someone sneezed, and a German said "Gesundheit". The American person said, "Oh, look dear, that person speaks English". |
Is that how you spell that??? Thanks. |
I had to google it - you know... that company started by an immigrant/refugee, and where many of their products were created by immigrants. You're welcome. |
