| First cycle of ivf was a success (turned to ivf due to a known fertility issue) |
Interesting responses. For those who conceived very quickly at 35/36, I was curious about partner's age. We are about to start trying for #2. I'm soon to be 36, and DH will be 41 later this year. DC#1 was conceived 2nd month of trying when we were 33 and 38. Wondering how long it will take this time... |
| At 33 it took me 9 months and all sorts of things--supplements, charting, OPK, Chinese herbs, months of acupuncture. |
| 2 months at 34 almost 35. 2 months at 36 almost 37. Two children prior to those pregnancies. |
| I know you're asking about slightly older women than I was when I started going through all this, but I don't think my experience is particularly uncommon: 18 month starting at age 28 for #1 - had baby age age 30. Another 20 months for #2 starting at age 31 - had baby at age 34. Still 34, #2 is six months old, and we're starting the TTC process again because I assume it will take just as long, if not longer. Also, all tests for both me and DH checked out. No known issues that should cause fertility issues. |
| We weren't even trying. I stopped taking the pill in hopes of trying in the future...one month later I was pregnant. |
| I was younger when I had kids but my friends who were having children in the 35 year range took at least a year on average. Some of the go getters turned straight to ART after a few months. No one got knocked up immediately. |
I wish these were my friends. I am 37 and trying for #3, and it's taking forever, and ALL my friends who are trying for #2 or #3 got pregnant the first or second month they tried, all during the last 8 months I've been trying. I don't understand how everyone I know at 37 is pregnant SO easily. |
Obviously this isn't a representative sample, but nevertheless, the statistics are that the large majority of women in their mid-30s will get pregnant within the year, so many will be successful in the first month or two. And success is more likely if you are educated and tracking your fertility. signed, pregnant at 36 with one well-timed act of intercourse the first (only) time trying. |
Is it easier to conceive when you are older if it's your first child? |
|
38 (39 when baby was born) - about 7-8 months of trying/tracking? DH was 50. First pregnancy, short, but regular cycle.
It felt like forever at the time, in retrospect it was pretty short given my age. |
| First month both times. I was on the pill before for about 8 years. No problems |
| We are TTC for #3. First two were conceived within 1-2 months of trying (at 32 years old and 34 years old respectively). Now at 37 we have been trying for 2 months. DH is 50. |
This exactly. I'm still in shock. |
| At 41, it took 4 months, not TI, just stopped taking pill. Partner was 37. |
