Lewes is lovely. Great infrastructure, lots of well maintained public spaces, nice restaurants, gorgeous flower festivals. proximity to state parks... We love it there.

Traffic sucks! Unless you have beach access, it's hard to actually go to the beach and park. The Cape is kinda gross for swimming and the beach is rough.

I'm sorry, but retiring in a Maryland beach town full of retired mechanics from Glen Burnie and secretaries from Waldorf is not my idea of a good time. The weather isn't good, the beach isn't nice, and in the summer you get even more riff-raff from Ocean City.

Bethany and Lewes do not attract the Ocean City crowd as someone who has spent time in both in season and off season.

I think the ratchet people are the retired mechanic families.

DH and I plan to retire in Hilton Head. We have kids in ES so we are a good ways out but it is nice to think about.

Word on the street is that property taxes will be going up significantly in Delaware and especially in Sussex County.

Local wisdom is that the second home people and the wealthy in Sussex County are not paying their fair share. Sussex County property taxes have not been reevaluated since the early 1970's.

Zero diversity, way too conservative. Beach in some areas is just ok, Traffic stinks,,,,,

I just went to a wedding in NC right outside of Charlotte, the minister said so many awful things people actually left the event. So while NC is changing, might even go blue, it's still way too conservative.
