Never said it was UCPS's fault. I said I hate certified mail. I can't be sitting at home 24-7 waiting for a letter. I have kids. I have things to do.

Oh my god, that check was stolen!! A cashiers check is as good as cash. You can't place a stop payment on a cashiers check. I'd be thinking someone at usps is having a great Christmas ! Insurance from these mail carriers won't cover the loss, probably only a few hundred bucks. ???

Actually our mortgage on that house is $3100. But the rental market is strong, so I am charging the going rate - FOR THAT AREA.

And there are a lot of places in this country where a $5K mortgage would not be at all a reach. You happen to be living in one of those areas. you're not very smart.


First off, I have lived in the DC area for over 30 years, and have friends with mortgages under 2K WITH A HOUSE. Second, didn't you say 18K was owed in one of your posts? Then I thought someone said that there was 3 months that was due.

OP here. Yes, that is why I want to call the attorney and hand him his ass for using USPS to begin with! And this is a sizable check - $19K. dumb-ass.

With regards to me calling the local post office. since he is the one that sent it, don't you think that he would have more luck tracking it down? or does it not make a difference at this point since I have a tracking number?


FWIW USPS in actually very reliable. I work in the jewelry industry and our insurance will onl cover USPS transactions, not UPS or FedEx.

Actually, yes it is. There's more to owning a house than paying a mortgage. It makes perfect sense for op to charge the going rental rate. It makes no sense for that to be pegged to OP's mortgage. If OP had the means to buy the house free and clear, it would not be reasonable for him/her to offer it up for free.

I hope you recover your money, OP.

I'm not a landlord, but wire funds internationally several times a year, and BOY IS IT A HASSLE! Things often go wrong.
Either I can't get a hold of anyone over the phone and have to have someone in the other country physically go to their office and argue with them, or I have to spend an eternity on the phone (with time differential it makes for early mornings!) talking to the dumbest, least responsive people on the planet.

My point being that no system is perfect, and I understand how riled up it can make you feel.
